Directv no longer Grandfathers any packages at all, if you have been grandfathered into a package you will be moved to a current sub sometime in the future I cant remember the date off hand but they will move you. That’s the latest but corporate dose seem to change there mind now and then. I know things are changing at Dtv, looking to make a profit now.

Short answer is, nobody was grandfathered or will be in the future innless the policies change.
Actually Scott and I both got the Grandfathered info from DirecTv People...

LOL, Im so done. I try not to post, I just know someone will say some lame sh*t but I actualy do it to be nice. Think whatever you want man its fine by me.

You must be the 1 and 2 % then.:D Maybe you could just explain how you can be grandfathered into a package that just went into effect. Directv is giving anyone who signed up for it 3 months free. Thats IT.! After that its $4.99 unless you have MPEG 2 equipment. In which you couldn't receive half the channels in the HD Extra pack anyway without MPEG4 equipment. SO are you and scott Grandfathered NO!!! Directv might be giving you a special Discount, but clearly not the same thing. I get HD access free for 1 year ,but it doesn't mean I'm grandfathered in.

I dont doubt that very very few will be grandfathered into this package(so small that its not worth mentioning, as Scott and dfergie pretty much stated), but you would be the first that ive heard say grandfathering would be done away with completely. Seems far fetched

Vurb, I agree with you on many things, in this instance I dont. We are talking about the general public here.
Yes and the general public can distinguish bold type from regular and are very sensitive to price increases.. You however only see things from a pro D* perspective IMO. Even more ridiculous is that you attempt to defend tyour position with an absurd ASSumption. An assumption that you use as your total defense of D*. :haha :haha :haha

You are entitled to it.:)
I am of the opinion that you give J6P too much credit.

Haha, I think that saying says it makes one out of YOU also doesnt it?;)

(hmm that part didnt quote)

Not raining on your post, I do know the info we got came Straight from Directv with no middleman...:)Check the other site, they got the same info...

I'm still receiving UHD and HDNMovies. It looks like they took away the new MPEG-4 channels in the HD Extra pac (that I'm not waisting $5 on) but left the old MPEG-2 channels I received prior to the big HD launch. I do not have, nor have I ever had any MPEG-2 hardware, only my trusty HR20-700 that I've had for just over a year now. I think everyone should check those two channels. If others still have them, then maybe we were grandfathered in on the only channels we had any right to be grandfathered in on.

I for one am sick of being nickel and dimed so much. Directv never told me when these new HD channels became available, They didnt inform me when they would end. If it wasnt for this forum, I wouldnt have known they were even available in the first place. When I noticed I wasnt receiving them (tonight) I called and now they have a recording about the change. It must be because alot of subscribers have called to complain

I wont be paying the extra $5 for some channels I might watch once in a while, while channel surfing.

Thats how most of us feel bud, but I'd say take the channels for free for 3 months and then before it expires, cancel it.

I happened to be flipping through the channels this morning and noticed that Smithsonian was no longer available. I've only been a subscripter for 2 weeks and was under the impression that when I signed up I would received all of the HD I could get. Only after talking to a retention specialist (thanks to this forum for the tip), I got the "five" free for three months. Count me in as one who was surprised with the change.

From the retention specialist: an iincrease licensing fees caused the separation and cost of the channels.

Yes from what I understand 98% of the folks WON'T be grandfathered. The ones who will be are the ones with only MPEG2 equipment on the old HD package.

Also remember you can get another 3 months "Free Preview" of the new $4.99 HD package by going and logging into your DirecTV account on the 15th and selecting the HD Extra Package (after 3 months the normal $4.99 charge applies)

Yep, lost my channels and didn't know what was up as I hadn't been following the forums. So, call to DTV explained that I need to spend another $5. per month. No biggie, but what is I couldn't get an answer to.

I have an HR-20-100s and have the DVR Choice plus package, plus some parts of an older package that were grandfathered in? I Can't seem to find just what extra I have that is grandfathered.
I'm concerned that if I make any change in my programming such as adding the $5. per month HD access, then I'll lose what I don't know I have. :)

One of my main concerns is I don't want to lose NFL network. It's on channel 212, although in the Directv Channel guide (both on their web site and this web site) it is listed as channel 248, and 212 is USA Net?

Anyone know if NFL network is part of the
Choice plus dvr HD package? Somehow I don't trust them.. and I don't want to lose that channel.

NFL Network is a BASIC channel for D*, anything Total Choice and up gets it.
fwiw, NFL Network is on 212 not 248

You're right, I was looking at the chart wrong.
Right now I've got a request for an appeal in the works with them to get local HD channels and they say it will get 45 days for approval or rejection. Heck, I could show them rejection letters from 2004. But, this time I'm pushing for a signal check as I am a "non-served" household when it comes to locals, analog or HD.
I seriously doubt that any technician will show up here with better equipment than what I have in place now. I'd like to get all this crap off the roof as I only receive one channel barely passable, depending on wx and season.

For me honestly I don't think the HD Extra pack would be a big package....and I dubt they will be adding many more channels..
Anyways I am thinking of making my decision by the end of today whether to order it or not.

As far as I know you will not lose your "old" package since you are just adding another pack to it. It acts the same as adding hbo to your existing package..Mine is total choice plus or something like that and it says on the bill or whatever that that particular package is no longer available but I keep it as long as i dont up grade or down grade to another "choice" package

I think that's what I have, total choice plus. Well, I think I'll make the move to purchase the hd extra pack *after the game*.. :)
