The official voice of the company is its public information and promotions officer. The CRS's are certainly not the official voice of any major corporation. To believe otherwise is foolhardy at best.

The CSR's are the people customers are supposed to contact for information about their service. If the information customers get from CSR's is unofficial until the customer gets verification from someone else in the company, they are of no use to the customer. Some may argue that this uselessness is self-evident. I say it should not be.

FWIW, DTV is still saying officially: "September" for the first release of new HD Channels:

http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4360048

This is not a rumor from a CS rep. Doesn't mean they weren't trying for the 19th.
Well, the bright side is that come October 1, if there aren't more HD channels up and running, no one can point fingers at "misinformed CSRs" (even though I don't think most of them *were* misinformed). And no apologists can claim people are acting on "unofficial information" as if it were gospel.

Hope someone archives that page indicating a September launch!

I left E* back in March on D*'s promise of being the "HD Leader". Last time I will believe any of their advertising. It appears E* has out foxed them this time!

Well, it's probably unwise to make decisions based upon promises.

As to E* outfoxing them...well, no (unless Charlie was able to sabotage the satellite, encoders, and/or D* billing/authorization systems).

Seriously. There's more to life than griping about tv and getting all stressed.

Anyways, the CSR's were informed from higher up that today would be the day. Not some, not most...all.

you left E* to get more HD with D* in March?
I left D* last about 15 moths ago and have 3 moths of the contract left with E* and it was the best thing I ever did. I miss the ST but it always was promises, promises, promises and nada on the ROI. Then turning off channels for the ST to work.....I hope D* gets is stuff together as it will help everyone.

gl getting the HD turned on. I would be pissed too

I like most can read enough to know that of the past few weeks Sept 19th was the unwritten/unofficial attempt as to go-live BUT that "end of Sept" was the main claim.

AND end of 2007 has been the plan ALL ALONG..... get over it already.

This is all such a non-issue and all this BS about constant broken promises and always missing targets and failure is such a load of crap; it IS too funny.

Babies and their spilled milk and loaded diapers!

There's only one thing more pathetic than constant whining, and that's whining about the whining.

Seems pretty clear that D* thought they would be ready to go today or reps wouldn't have been pitching "the 19th" as recently as yesterday and they wouldn't have been sending out a revised HD broadcast schedule, effective today, to some TV listing services, as reported elsewhere. A string along con by D* would not have been so specific.

You can bet there is tremendous top down pressure at D* to get this service launched ASAP, but Murphy's Law doesn't give a s*** about what D* execs want or care about the hurt feelings of the rest of us.

What ticks me off is not so much of the not getting the HD today(although it is aggravating), but as others have mentioned, the HUGE variety of stories being told them by CSR's. What is so hard about Directv telling their ALL CSR's something. I don't care if it's the end of the year stuff or whatever, just get them ALL on the same pageso there aren't 500 stories flying around. They seem to keep their CSR's in the dark for FAR too long. Get them in the information loop SOONER so they can, at least be consistent with their stories.

Is this really too much to ask from Directv?
