Dish Network Retailer Chat Recap - September 28, 2007

MSG HD offers at least 41 games each year in HD. It would be big if Dish finally activates this channel. Cablevision is the owner so it would likely come with FSNNY. That would be 3 teams with 40 games each. 120 extra games in HD. Lets get this wrapped up already!

* EchoStar is requiring that any Retailer selling any FTA receivers stop such practices within 30-days.

* Failure to comply will lead to disciplinary action.
Hmm, I wonder how many retailers will instead choose to stop the "retailing Dish Network" practices and keep the FTA (and maybe DirecTV) business, which can both be quite profitable--and LEGAL.

Stopping the "retailing Dish Network" practices would be another way to avoid "disciplinary action."

Yup you can keep selling FTA.

I would just register another LLC just for your FTA sales and name it something different then you other satellite company which sells Dish Network.

Then let the new company sell FTA and the old company can keep on selling Dish Network equipment and not be in violation of their rule. :)

LOL... I was thinking the same. Two companies.

Billy Bob's Satellite
Billy Bob's Satellite - Part II (FTA one)

;)

Cox does it to sell cable and telephone so why can't you!?

I think any retailer who chooses not to sell DISH Network is an idiot because FTA will not be around forever!

As soon as the piracy problem is solved, 99% of all FTA sales will dry up and go away!

There would be even more of a FTA future if there would be some additional content available with the FTA systems. There is not enough content to draw enough people to it to make a decent business out of it. If there were 10-15 basic cable channels on there then I think that would be enough to get some people on a budget to go FTA.

There are several hundred channels available if you load illegal software on it, and thats what the entire business model is based off of right now.

Other than that, the only viable market for FTA should be international customers!

And religious customers - That is 90% of the legit FTA market around here (that I've run into, anyhow)

I must be missing something but isn't FTA "free to air" Are they saying we can't get fta chans with an antenna? We have to get it through them? 1 poster said 100s of chan with the right software, I am very confused. Are there local chans you can't get without "illegal" software?

Thanks,
Brad

On C & Ku Band there are LEGAL FREE networks such as ABC - NBC & CBS as well as FOX. There is also the RTN network, 34 network channels just alone on Galaxy 10R. Add to that the news channels such as ABC News and the 2 movie channels AMG-TV & White Springs TV plus 11 PBS channels on AMC 3 and I would say FTA has plenty of channels to entice someone to tell Dish and Direct to bag it. They change the rules after you sign their contract which is illegal in itself. I broke their contract legally without even going to court. DISH and DIRECT and the Cable guys need to understand we the viewers are tired of their crap.
