1st post here :)

Hey guys, I have been lurking trying to get comparisons in about how much bigger is the slimline dish compared to the 3 LNB dish used for Directv para todos?

I will be doing my own install of it (the new HD dish)...

due to the fact that my apartment complex doesn't want me to have it but I know that legally I am allowed to have it, and rather than go through the drama... anyways...
I have a little patio where I have had my dish for about 3 years and no one has said a word.

My setup right now is a 12 ft pole hammered in 6 ft into the ground leaving me with about 6 ft of pole.

I called Directv and I asked if I could install it myself and they said it would be no problem as long as i sign the work order.

I'm wondering if they will give me the multiswitch and the dish and the HDDVR and then leave (which is what i want)?

Thanks, and I am glad to have joined this community of enthusiasts.

First of all:welcome to Satellite Guys!
I think my answer depends upon the local install company. Some may allow you to take the equipment without actually installing it, others may not. Can you find out who it is and give them a call? Also, you will need to modify the pole to 2" od to fit the new dish. There are adapters available that can do this. Any reason why you do not want them to do the work? The 5 lnb dishes are harder to align than the 3 lnb types.

thanks for the welcome, as of now, i will not be getting the new hd stuff. no clear line of all satellites.

If you have no los issues with the 3 lnb dish, you should be okay with the 5 lnb. Which satellites do you look at for the Directv para todos package?

If you can see 101, 110 & 119 with your current 3lnb dish you should be alright with the 5lnb slimline.
The "old" HD channels were available on the 3lnb dish. The "new" HD channels are on 103b. So, if you can see 101 & 110, you can get the new HD's with the slimline and Mpeg-4 receiver(s) off 103b.

i'll post a picture of my setup...

The reason was that i didnt want them telling me i couldn't do it.
The pictures will explain a lot.
Thanks for the help, i really wish i had a meter.
