Its possible that those things are demanded more than HD right now. HD is still fairly new to most people. Once they get it, most want more, and thats where i see the problems for the cable companies. Not only will subs want more HD they wont be willing to give up or cut back anything else to get it. Hard to get the toothpaste back in the tube so to speak.
Don't get me wrong , I know exactly what you mean.I just think in time TV should just be all HD,and it shouldn't be an added option. Why on earth wouldn't people want the clearest possible picture. they should make it a law by 2010 that all Programming has to be HD.

This poll is bad news for E* if its anywhere near correct.

???

515 of the 619 respondents voted 6 months or more.

Even if all 619 said they were leaving asap, it's still 619. Out of 14 million subscribers, I'd have to say that's probably lower than "who cares".

People who vote on forums do not even come close to an accurate cross-section of society.

It's not all about the channels. Great picture quality should be included too.
And from what I've been hearing DirectTV is providing that . So come on DISH step up to the plate.:D

Great picture quality that does not include HD content isn't what I consider a bonus. And to those out their ranting about SciFI HD, remember that there is no HD programs coming out of the SciFi channel.

I want great picture quality in HD. It's amazing how many friends I have that come over, and tell me, wow, What a great HD picture when they are looking at a SD channel. Then I switch over to DiscoveryHD Theater and blow their socks off.

I want HD Content, that is actual HD. I will wait til Dish delivers.

Ive seen several HD programs on sci-fi . You seem to be using older info to make that claim

And to those that make statements of fact that are incorrect, please do your research before doing so in the future. Sci-Fi HD does show HD programming, it's not 24x7 but they do show HD programming.

I'll wait till DISH delivers. It is not worth all the money to duplicate my present setup with DISH all over again with DIRECTV. NExt year DISH will have more capacity for national hd channels than Directv so I can wait.

I keep seeing you say this. but besides Charlie's off the cuff remark about this new MPEG4 system with 200 national HD locals, 100 HD LIL cities, and all the current SD and international channels that E* has I'm really curious how they can do all this with only two satellites. It's taking D* four satellites to come up with 150 national HD channels and 1500 HD LIL channels, how's E* able to do what they're claiming with only 1/2 as many satellites. I'm not trying to start a fight or flame war with this question, just very curious how E* can accomplish this.

Rad,
The experts will probably set you straight, but I have 3 E* satellites for HD (110, 119 and 61.5). That should certainly make it somewhat more doable. Meanwhile, there is another satellite launch scheduled for next year.

Thanks, Eric, know that and E11, which folks say is a replacement for an existing satellite. BTW, the satellites at 110 and 119 are not just HD only but carry all their core SD programming in addition to some HD.

I wish there was a way to find out how many of those 515 have switched, or actually will ever switch at all. Saying you're going to do it out of frustration is one thing, but actually doing it is another.

Sounds like your friends don't have a clue or their Blind. DISHSD is terrible and DiscoveryHD isn't something to jump for joy about. HDNET 2 years ago
on DISH would have blown their minds as the quality of DISHHD was really good back then. Much better than today and it sucked to see it go. But I have a feeling it will be back when they launch the new sats next year. When that happens tell your friends "Don't forget to wear their diapers" because they'll SH!T their pants when they see good HD.

Its bad news because it shows a decent level of people that want more - and about half will only wait 6 months. 6 months will pass pretty fast.

Sfi-FI HD HAS

to robgfaulkner
Sfi-FI HD HAS Stargate Atlantis Plus Flash Gordon in HD so to say they have nothing in HD IS Wrong;)

The only thing I am waiting on Dish to deliver is Speed HD, which really isn't HD until next year, so until then, I am not missing anything.

I still have my Voom stuff, and that's more HD than SCI-FI, USA, CNN and TWC has all together.

Everyone mostly talks about this channel or that channel, but I think many of us still want our local HDs on Dish (for those of us who do not have it.)
And it's tough to see it is available in many areas via Direct or cable where it is still not available on Dish.
If we were waiting for either more Dish HD channels OR more Dish local HD channels, it would be one thing. But many are 'starving' for both.

Yes, even though I do not have that problem, I think you probably hit the nail on the head...the VAST majority of people in the REAL WORLD, NOT on web boards definately want their locals in HD first and foremost..so, Dish should probably focus on that first, before they worry about adding Fox news in HD, or the Toilet Bowl Channel in HD..
