Suddenly have three transponders in the high 90s for 103(a).

Other areas reporting more hot transponders as well.

Suspect D* is adding more locals, anyone know for sure ?

I ve had signals in the 90's for over a year on the 103a.

Yea, so have I, but not on these new transponders that have just been turned up, they used to say n/a.

1 - 8 96 92 89 96 60 94 n/a n/a
9 - 16 n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a 94 78
17 - 24 92 100 0 78 70 0 96 0
25 - 32 all n/a

My HR20-700 doesn't see them yet but my H21-200 does.

My HR20-700 and H20-100 still have just n/a on the new ones (15/16 & 18-25)

This would be a good sign that D* is getting ready to launch another batch of HD LiL.

Would this would be them firing up the spotbeams on the new D10 - or turning on existing spotbeams on the Spaceway that they could have used a year ago?

According to a post in thread New spotbeams on 103(a) - DBSTalk.Com they say:

"The fgollowing DMAs get their SD locals from 103a starting 11/15/07: Palm Springs, CA, Dothan, AL, Midland-Odessa, TX, Beaumont-Port Arthur, TX, Harrisonburg, VA, and Butte, MT."

Interesting that they will start puting some SD locals for rural markets on the new sat - I'm assuming these will end up on the CONUS portion, as they would probally not devote a spotbeam to one market SD locals.
Essentially they can get an SD market up with just as much bandwith as they could get one HD channel up, maybe even up to 2 markets per HD channel bandwith wise.

IMHO, they really don't have an option for new LIL launches (SD or HD) except to use spot beams, CONUS transponders are too valuable to use for LIL. It may be that these smaller markets will be sharing the same spot with HD channels, or start with the SD channel now and then do a hot cut to the HD channels in 2/2009.

Kinda sounds backwards there... receiver designed with HD in mind... KA bird designed for the HD race. Then they put SD on it. Then they go and release the H21 without OTA. Not thinking about the rural areas are they?

These are at 103(a) so they are spotbeams on the Spaceway satellite. I see them on my H20-600 and my H21-200 but not on either of my HR20s.

RAD in Austin sees:
1 - 8 96 92 89 96 60 94 n/a n/a
9 - 16 n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a 94 78
17 - 24 92 100 0 78 70 0 96 0
25 - 32 all n/a

I am just east of Dallas so a couple of hundred miles east of RAD and see:
1-8 100 0 98 27 85 0 n/a n/a
9-16 n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a 100 27
17-24 96 0 98 0 100 0 100 0

The different signal strengths are of course because these are spotbeams. Also a couple have dropped to zero and back again so they must be testing.

I believe D* has either tightened the area the spot beams cover or is moving some off of 99(b). Yesterday transponders 1 & 6 disappeared from 99 on my HR20-700. A couple of weeks ago, transponder 3 went away. There was signal available for over a year from the three that are now gone. I get my Salt Lake locals from 103(a) transponder 4 and have yet to see any changes on the 103 here.

My HR20 got a system update yesterday morning and now a lot more transponders on the 103A bird are showing up. :up
