Hey I am new to this and have a question I have a philips dvr 708 ( for about 3 years and developed a reciver2 problem) Ibought a hughes r15 a couple weeks ago and would like to know if it is possible to install the old harddrive as a slave or piggy back it in the hughes r15 as a second drive. It has about 30 hrs. of programming on it that i really would like to keep and access on the r15 and ifso how do i go about doing this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, the DVR708 is a TiVo based DVR and the R15 isn't. So what you asked isn't possible.
You might be able to use the 708 drive in the R15 to increase capacity, but you'll lose all programming on both doing it.

You also might want to check with DirecTV and make sure you didn't buy a leased DVR.;):welcome

You can't. The video is encrypted. In fact each DVR may be using different encryption methods.

You may want to check the TiVo Community Forum.
