I'm a little disappointed. Yes, IMF was very repetitive, and they had way too much domestic content (especially rap), but from a brief look at Ovation's website it looks like their other content is similar to what I'd get from some of the Voom channels and some of the public interest channels if I was inclined to watch it.

Ovation should've let IMF live and negotiated their own carriage agreement if they thought they were so good.

There is no need for Dish to move the channel number, as Music is one of the main programming elements of Ovation.

Unlike Gallery, the Voom channel referrred to by the OP, this channel covers all aspects of the Arts.

Yes, they probably won't show the soft-core style videos from IMF, but there is a lot of venues for that sort of thing.

Ovation's existing music schedule really doesn't look half bad (half: because I don't see any metal) but again, two channels would've been better than one. Buying a channel just to strongarm your way onto a provider and then kill it is a seriousy sleazy tactic! (And if anyone had both channels, they'll now be losing one, but I don't know if anyone did. Didn't Ovation go off the air for a while, or am I mis-remembering?)

Well, if Ovation would pick up some of IMF's programming, it would certainly be an improvement. The only other network that airs blocks of World Music Videos is LinkTV, and they don't run them very often anymore.

Anything they could bring over from IMF would be more interesting to me than what's already on Ovation.

(BTW, there are a very few cable/IPTV operators out there, IIRC, that did carry both IMF and Ovation. So I guess those subs lose a channel, but it's got to be a very small number.)

The last I looked, they still run them quite a bit, they just haven't run any new ones in like forever.

I preferred IMF to Link because Link seems to focus on folk/ethnic music while IMF also had western-style bands that hadn't been marketed in the U.S. yet (or at least they used to -- as I mentioned before, lately they've been running way too many of Universal's North American artists).

There's an British music channel on Sirius, but they don't have an on-screen display to tell you what you're listening to, they talk a lot, and for some reason I never seem to catch anything there I particularly care for.

Completely off-topic, I wish somebody in the U.S. would air the Eurovision Song Contest each year. I think it's a requirement that entrants not have an international contract yet, so there could hardly be any copyright issues.

Ovation is one of the channels that was rumored to be coming in May of 2000 when the AT150 (now AT250) package was formed. It never materialized on channel 127 as listed on many TV grids at the time.

Ovation is the second to last "rumored coming May 2000 with AT150" to show up on Dish's line-up. The last would be American Life TV.

These were the channels that were supposedly coming with AT150 in May that did not make it to that party:

115 Style - showed up on that channel 11/22/2000

127 Ovation - never showed, perhaps Wednesday. Only 8 years late. Oxygen has that channel slot now.

133 Fox Movie Channel - Showed up before the channel chart but after May.

136 Trio - Trio died and was resurrected as Current TV and was added on channel 196 on 1/30/2007
--------EDIT--- Correction, this channel became Sleuth TV after Trio was bought by NBC Universal and KILLED. Added as Sleuth on channel 198 June 2006

158 Much Music USA - (Changed to "Fuse") was added 1/22/02

163 VH1 Classic - Added 7/18/01

167 Great American Country - Added 5/30/01 (just made it a year late!)

177 Nick GAS - Added 8/1/2000

197 Goodlife Network - (now "American Life") ---Still aiting. Ch. 197 is the Documentary Channel now.

199 Wisdom - Added to channel 264 on 11/15/2000 (then it became Lime TV, and last year it puckered up and blew away)

211 News World International - Channel died before it was ever added.

So, from the "It's about damned time" department, I am pretty happy to finally see this channel if indeed it is coming to the line-up.

I am very pleased that it is coming. Those who like classical music and opera will like this channel. I had it when I was with D*. My only beef is that it plays commercials. I remember watching a classical performance and right in the middle of it with no warning, BAM!!! BY OXY CLEAN!!! Other than that, I look forward to having this back. It is certainly better than IMF IMO.

That's BBC Radio One, the premier Pop music channel in Britain.

The web site has all the artist names/ song titles, as well as features on the artists, and on-demand audio streams for all the past recent programs.

Not according to Ovation TV's press release. IMF will cease on other carriers in the next 90 days. dish is tomorrow.

From Ovation about IMF:
IMF was launched in 2005 as the only 24-hour music television network dedicated to delivering all-music programming featuring live concerts, in-depth artist interviews and the most popular music videos from the U.S. and around the world. Under the purchase agreement, IMF will cease operation of its programming on DISH Network on Jan. 9, 2008, at which time it will be replaced by the current programming of Ovation TV. IMF will cease its programming on other distributors by the end of the first quarter of 2008.

Dish Network – which added IMF in April 2005 and kept the channel on its lineup as part of a litigation settlement with Universal Music – will position Ovation on IMF’s channel location (157) Wednesday. Nearly all of IMF's 8 million plus subscribers come from Dish Network, which carries IMF on its second most widely distributed tier, Ovation chairman Ken Solomon said.

I thought Newsworld International was bought and changed into CurrentTV and trio just went dark.

Yeah, that was my understanding. NWI became CurrentTV; Trio went dark.

Also - I totally agree, LinkTV's music often focuses on folk/tribal too much for my tastes. I don't mind a bit of that sprinkled in for variety, though. IMF's world music did tend to be more western-style bands that weren't marketed to the USA, and that is more what I'd be interested in seeing.

Hopefully Ovation is able to integrate some of the IMF programming quickly.
