Direct at it again....arrrrggghhhhh!!!

Not to dampen the May 1 date (I will take Scott at his word!), but that is a Thursday so does that really mean May 7?

That's true about the new satellite, but the simple truth is that they ALREADY have the bandwidth to add some channels, and yet they continue to do NOTHING regarding national HD channels!!! From other threads, we know that at the very least, Sci-Fi HD and USA HD, and four or five others, have been uplinked for some time. Heck, USA/Sci-Fi have been uplinked since November of 2007 (is that right?). And we still don't have those channels to watch.

:up

i posted this in a thread where it was a bit OT (sorry for those seeing it twice-- my bad!).

OK. If I WERE to switch (still not sure if I am-- I really like the 622 and it's OTA capabilities, which I have heard the HD21 lacks w/o an additional box added on), what's the best way to go? CAll Dish and take whomever they send out-- not good w/ past installs of sat/cable. Or is it better to go to a local "shop" and arrange?

Reason I ask is I have a tricky install-- big ol brick house with 4 TVs on 3 floors. maybe the cable runs from Dish can be re-used?

Why not just check with one of this sites sponsers? Welcome Satellite Guys Forum Members - Plasma Concepts

Can they offer the kinds of "deals" that called directly can sometimes get?

IMHO D* can beat anyone since they are the company, but a lot depends on the CSR you get and what you want. I'd try Plasma Concepts first then call D* and see what they say, but get whatever D* says in writing if it sound especially good since what the sales person on the phone tells you might not be what you end up with, then you're in a you say/they said fight and D* ususally wins those.

I too have been loyal to E* for many years, but when I see NOTHING added except a SECOND jewlery shopping channel (not even a new one, a second channel showing the exact same thing!), I can't help but get fed up. Scott has quickly become the boy who cries wolf and the only thing credible around here is the uplink report. I showed the brochure that came in my E* bill stating 100 National HD channels by the end of 2008 that convinced me to upgrade and not go over to D* last November to our office's legal council and he basically told me that if there are not at least 100 NATIONAL HD channels when the calendar flips to 2009, I am legally entitled to every cent I have paid them for HD back for failure to deliver on a contract. If they are going to hold me to it, by God I'm holding them to it too!

Hmmm....class action suit??

Well I believe that we will know if Scots tale of more HD will come through by next Thursday. If SCIFI HD and USAHD is not active than I gusee Charkie the Tuna soon will mean by 12/31/08

As I keep saying stick around until May 1st, if you dont like what you see by then then move to DirecTV. I have also said that lots of national HD is coming in April so again... STAY TUNED. :)

Okay Scott, I'm going to believe in you here because you sound like you know what you're talking about. I sure hope you're right because if May 1 rolls around and you are wrong this site is going to get some serious flame posts by the other posters and you're going to get housed on the forums.

On a scale of 1-10, how confident are you? And, what hypothetical things might happen that would cause you to be wrong??? Curious.

--THANKS

Anything can happen! I remember D* last year kept delaying the HD channel launch . No one was too happy. But it was worth the wait. I'm sure whatever E* is doing will be something good.

Two weeks ago Dish HD customers were going to be 'very happy'

My sources seem to be equally credible and I don't have any sources.

Okay, I just read the very early portions of the "Sci-Fi HD when can we watch" thread from way, way back. Scott sounded just as confident about Sci-Fi and USA back in December 2007 as he does about new HD channels now. And yet, we have no Sci-Fi or USA in HD to this day. What the heck is going on with this forum? How do you guys deal with it?

No offense Scott, but your sources leave a lot to be desired.

p.s. I'll be back to apologize if something happens by May ... but not if they are just a few locals. :)

May will turn into June, which will turn into July...
Some on other sites say it is NBC-Uni at fault, fiber issues, etc... been what 5 months, I think any fiber issues would be taken care of... it isn't capacity issues cause they have smithsonian, tennis, etc testing...(stuff people don't really want or ask for)
Dish has really dropped the ball... they turned all there focus to major market Lil, ignoring that most people in major markets can get their locals OTA in better resolution and bandwidth...If I were interested in locals I wouldn't have dish or dtv...
Most people want HD from sat for the channels they CAN'T get locally...

Hopefully for both E* customers and the credibility of this site and Scott you get your "lots" (whatever that is) of HD this month.

I totally agree with your take on OTA locals. I'm lucky enough to be in an area close to my city where I can get the OTA HD channels with a cheap pair of rabbit ears in my living room hidden behind the center channel speaker. I'm fairly sure the compression on the HD OTA channels will be way less than what Dish Network gives me when they finally pick them up. Unless the convenience of a more integrated HD local solution from Dish totally outweighs the PQ from OTA, I won't even bother to pay for them.

GIVE ME SCI-FI.

I don't know if dish has the room to add Hd channels now, but if reading what Scott wrote they must have. If this is the case it seems to me that Charlie does not care about his customers. Where I work I have to take courses on keeping and getting new customers and the main thing is keeping your current customers happy. Reading the different threads I see Charlie is not keeping his customers happy and it appears his company isn't growing so fast anymore. So if Dish has the room and there are no contracts to iron out, Charlie has no reason to hold out on putting them on.
