Any drawbacks/flaws that SAT has vs Cable? How about equipment reliability? Is the DVR reasonably reliable? I'd hate to switch and then have problems we didn't have before.

FF, you are over thinking this. Are you telling me your cable has NEVER gone out on you? Have you not read that one of the main reasons Dish folk who do not go to Direct or cable is because of better Dish Equipment? Do you really think there is a fail-safe option? Just drink the water.

I have extensive experience with Charter Cable's MOXI and Motorola DVRs. The VIP722 is far more reliable. I am very happy with the performance. Has always recorded the timers for me. The way the OTA channels blends in with the satellite channel guide is outstanding. And the way it can record three channels at the same time is awesome. I just wish it had all the whistles and bells the MOXI and Motorola have. I have two friends that have been with Direct TV forever and they were not happy switching from the TIVO/Direct DVR to the newer HR20. I have heard from folks in this forum that most of the glitches have been fixed now in the HR20 and 21.
