A Note From Scott on New HD

You mean that Austin was supposed to have HD locals in 2006???
Goodness me. How could you even bring up that touchy subject? Don't you realize that we are supposed to be so happy now, that we almost/completely forget the 18+ months without HD locals that were supposed to have been available in 2006

I have always considered DirecTV the "Gold Standard" of satellite providers. Everything they do is world class.

Some things may cost you more with DirecTV, but if your willing to spend the money for it then its worth it.

But you forgot to mention right now one can save over $1,000 by ordering DirecTV with a special AAA deal. You should know a lot of folks had read my thread and asked you for referrals:) And they are now paying less than when they had E*.

I've never complained about regional sports networks before but I found out yesterday that my daughter's first T-Ball game is this Saturday, so my plans to go to Tuscaloosa to see Alabama's A-Day game are cancelled, "not a problem", I thought, "I'll just watch it on SportsSouth or whatever", turns out the game is on CSS, and neither Dish nor Direct have it. I'm close to wanting CSS instead of scifiHD :( but thats just crazy talk

When I had the R15 DVR, I didn't think it was world class. E*s DVRs are much better than D*s (at least when I had D*. I switched to E* in 11/06).

So are the Cleveland locals online now or not? Also whats the status of USA-HD and SCIFI-HD? I am currently pointed at 129 in Cleveland if my locals are up now im calling dish now.

I totally agree. While I have both providers (Direct installed last week) I can see what exactly you mean. From the Direct on Demand and the online scheduler everything is really good. I even get to talk to an American when I call Direct.:)

I don't know if the dvr is lacking like a lot of people say, I will say it does take some getting use to.

Direct does not seem to keep people in the dark as much as Dish which is big in my book.

With all of that said though, I am excited for what may be going on with Dish in the next few months.:)

Let me start by saying I am not a sat sub now (still on Cable waiting to make the jump). Based on what I see happening in the last 12 months with Dish and Direct, I think it's quite clear that Dish is going for the low end market who wants something a few dollars cheaper and doesn't care so much about having all the HD channels and all the sports channels and all the package options. This is just one example... they obviously don't care that they are way, way behind on national HD channels and don't feel a sense of urgency about getting them rolled out.

Direct is going for the upscale market who has HD and wants all the sports, channels, and packages.

Since I am in the "upscale market" I am 99% convinced I'm going with Direct when the time comes. I'm really just waiting for them to roll out their single-cable solution (SWM enabled dish) so I don't have to run a bunch of RG6 out of the dish.

I don't mean to turn this into a dish vs. direct war zone but I just wanted to point out that this little episode only reinforces people who think like me. Dish apparently doesn't really care that they are moving glacially slowly on national HD rollout.

Thinks like you or did you get this from the USA article last week

Apparently the locals will be available later today but you won't see them. Because of Dish's infinite wisdom, they will be on 61.5 and not mirrored to 129. So unless you have one of those wing dishes, you won't see what you have been promised for the last two years.

I understood that which is why im asking for an update from someone who does have a 61.5 dish. I don't want to call dish network to get an additional dish until I know they are up.

Also if dish does install a dish for me do they require a commitment on my part for a free upgrade to 61.5 from 129?

I have had both dishes installed since 2006 when I signed up with Dish.

My signal for 61.5 is great, I guess this would have been the original rollout needed for JAX LIL HD, but that never happened.

I do have 61.5, and no, Cleveland HD channels are not visible yet. (Personally, I am glad they are on 61.5: 61.5 is what Dish was intalling to everyone in Cleveland at the time I ordered the service 3 years ago: some SD locals were on 61.5 at that time).

I am on the line with Dish Network right now. They confirmed that my Cleveland locals will be online Thursday at 6am. When I asked about a free upgrade they refused. I kept asking and asked for the number to cancel my account my reason was when cable adds channels they don't charge to come out and install equipment once i have HD service. After tell her to cancel my account she then went back to a supervisor who was able to wave a 99.00 charge to upgrade my dish.something about a 110 promotion but I might have not understood that correctly.
