The premium movie channels in HD would be our best bet for most HD broadcast per-channel would they not?

So the addition of HBO2 and Starz Edge and I think there was one other...would be very good addition AND they are national.

Yea what about ESPNNEWS HD that is HD full time and what about STARZHD WEST CINAMAX WEST HD HBO WEST HD SHOWTIME WEST HD?? Direct Tv has them dish does not and finally what about PBSHD?????

Their is the Tech Chat comming up will Dish give us the reason for a lack of national HD????

Doesn't MGMHD and MOJO show all HD? would love to have both of those!:yes

Gee, Smithsonian HD as well. Are people saying SciFiHD shows only one HD show every three weeks? Please.

The arguments above are red herrings: no one ever said DISH made a claim of any type with a deadline of May 1st. The only thing I can remember them saying relative to nationals is 100 national HD by the end of the year.

We were "told", separately, by various sources (including Scott) that if we were interested in national HD we should wait for May 1st when, I believe, "lots" would be added. It hasn't turned out that way. No amount of sour grapes or revisionist history is going to change that.

I don't blame Scott: as I said elsewhere: I don't think anyone with half a brain ever, deep down, took that claim seriously. We all know that the only people who REALLY know what's going on at Dish (if anyone) don't post here. Period.

If you want more national HD then logic demands, if you can, that you switch to D*. Nothing more, nothing less.

I find it unacceptable as a customer though that those in Helena, MT and Yuma/El Centro are getting their locals when Dish is THIS far behind on national HD (even if many of the most requested aren't true HD) and they continue launching Podunk, B.F.E. HD locals while skipping Indy too. I have never been able to do a side-by-side comparison of Dish and DirecTV and SO easily see the better provider. LOL Time to call DirecTV.

Dish has been slow, but they have also been relatively sure. I am happy with the current content. more would be nice, but i can wait.

Yeah If anybody is unhappy with E* and not paying for what you want then switch to D*! Even if it costs you more to break your contract........at least you will get every HD content that is out there right away! And all of your hard earned dollars will go to what you want!

Yes, we do live in B.F.E. and if you care to notice the Helena, MT channels you're complaining about are SD not HD. Up here DirectTV doesn't even have SD locals to offer, so we are grateful that DISH does! We will probably be the last in the country to get HD locals, but, I am happy just to have the SD since most of us can't get them over the air and the one and only cable company is analog and very poor PQ. So yay DISH for doing the SD locals:)

Yes, but.........................

They show very little in the proper aspect ratio. Thankfully, we do have HD Net Movies & Voom, which don't basterdize the directors composition.........

what the hell does one have to do with the other? The locals that are being launched are on 110 SPOTBEAMS so it doesn't affect your "precious" stretch-o-vision HD channels in any way

And maybe Dish is trying to get those areas added so they can get more customers? Ever thought of that?

(even if many of the most requested aren't true HD)
you just answered your own question there

i 2ND THAT!
+3

agreed :) Glad your locals are coming soon

I'm thinking Glendive's one and only local (KXGN) might be the last ;)

but they'll still bitch because they don't have X channel in stretch-o-vision

Yes...I agree. Am especially happy E* added Norfolk locals today. D* doesn't have the Norfolk locals!

BTW, for those who think Norfolk is a small area...the "Norfolk" coverage includes Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Williamsburg. :up:up

TNGTony posted this earlier in our pub members area.

He sums things up better then I ever could so I am going to repost his message here as it says it all. :)

Maybe they did actually add "a lot" of HD. But when 99% of the people heard that, they assumed, apparently wrongly, that meant a bunch of national HD channels would get lit up. We got 3. Now I am happy for those that got their local HD lit up, and I am grateful for the channels we did get, but for a huge percentage of the country, "a lot" of HD by May 1 amounted to 3 channels, and that's not "a lot" no matter how you spin it.

Dish has been touting since the last Charlie Chat a bunch of channels that "may" be added, and only a few of those have even gotten added so far.

Truth be known, if it weren't for the fact that my wife loves the Voom channels, and that I'm still under contract for one more year, I'd jump to DirecTV. Then, down the road, assuming it comes true and Dish actually adds "a lot" of HD, I have the option to come back.

Now, regarding adding HD channels that have little or no HD. Even though they may not offer much in HD, even the SD shown on the HD channels looks better than the over-compressed stuff we have to see on the current SD-only channels (as long as they don't do the horrible stretching thing).

Dish needs to add some of these other channels, if nothing else, to improve the perception of the market that they're keeping up with Direct. Especially given the recent satellite failures and delays, and the countless court battles that Dish is involved in, I'm surprised that Dish keeps attracting new subscribers. Maybe it's all those HD locals they've been adding... :)

Just to be clear, I'm not trashing on you Scott, I'm trashing on Dish.

There are lot of HD channels that are merely place holders when the channel becomes full-time HD channel. Just like the old days when space was limited on coax cable that providers allocated channel space for a certain channel. Viacom is a perfect example. They have only one HD channel MHD where the shows are in HD because those shows were produced in HD. CMT-HD, VH1-HD, and MTV-HD are place holders because space is limited for cable/satellite providers. Unless the program is produced in HD, it's not HD.

I am glad that some operators are not "stretching" the picture. FX, SCI-FI, USA, TBS will have more content in HD in the years ahead when the Studios start using HD equipment. Relax, this roll-out is going to take a while. Thanks Tony for your post
