You may be right but...

According to the Dish site the Boston HD Locals are channel numbers 6318-6321. And these channels numbers are the ones that the EKB list shows are loaded twice on 61.5. They are available on the conus TP 21 and unavailable on the spot beam "5s16".

I tried to post this a little while ago just as the database crashed on satguys.
Looks like you found your answer.
----
The Boston and NY HD local ABC/CBS/NBC/Fox and WPIX are ready on spot beams at 61.5° in MPEG4 at the 6000 channel range. The NY and Boston SD MPEG-4 locals are ready on spot beams at 61.5° in MPEG4 at the 8000 channel range

See ya

Ahh not so fast...

I took a look at the HD Temp Channels today on 61.5 and they are no longer all the same bitrate (indicating a static slate)

But today there is actual programming on all of those Temp Channels.

Take a look for yourself. :)
Companion for your snapshot :)

[I saw report, first one is CNNHD stream.]

Looking at the EKB list, what's with all the re-use of channel numbers? Can they DO that? I see eight channels 5160 for example. And does that have something to do with why the automated reports quit working?

I haven't looked that close but I would guess that any duplicate channel numbers would have to be only on mutually exclusive spotbeams so that any receiver would only ever see one of them?

From what I've read, the duplicate channel numbers are exactly what has fouled up digiblur's automated system due to a bug in TSReader.

In that case, I bet it is also what is fouling up receivers, every time there's an uplink, one or more channels I am subbed to become "unsubbed" until I reboot the box.

Yes. That is exactly the problem. TSReader, the tool Digi uses for the reports can only see unique channel numbers. John H uses a different tool so his reports are accurate when it comes to the duplicates.

Correct. That is what I have seen as well with all these duplicates. I'm guessing that Dish is really fighting to keep the 1000-4999 range clear so that three digit channel numbers we use most often only require three button pushes without a long pause.

I was just at the Dish network site, and looked into the availability of the HD locals for Jackson, Ms, and though the uplink did not show the Fox affiliate(WDBD 40) it is listed as HD available on the dish site....is this anothe Dish screw up?

I don't know the answer, as I don't have a 61.5 dish, but I would tend to believe SatelliteGuys info over a DISH CSR/Website, at least immediately after the change.

Also, the link from E* local channel for the HD Fox affiliate comes back with a statement "Sorry! No 'Network' information available" rather than the actual Satellite and Channel number like the other three.

Does anyone have an idea when the FOX station will be available? I wonder what the complication is for why it was left off the list.

Can anyone confirm that Greenville/Spartanburg SC HD Locals went live. I wouldn't mind moving home again.

Unless we're supposed to do something special to see them, they aren't showing up yet. I've got 250 package with HD and locals, but I'm not seeing anything "new" in regards to locals in HD.

Actually, I don't think I do. I see 119, 110, 129. Am I supposed to? I am definitely a newbie on this stuff so thanks for any help. :)
In order to receive those HD Locals you will need a dish pointed at 61.5 west. Dishnetwork can help you with that if you really want to get them.

Thanks for the reply. I called Dish and they said I have two choices in their new "promotion" for HD local channels:
1) free installation of a new dish - with an additional 24 month commitment
2) one time 59.95 charge for the install

I have less than 3 months left on my original commitment. And, I've been paying $5.99 a month for locals under the guise that one day soon they'd come thru in HD. Not once was I told I would have to pay for new equipment.

So I don't see either of Dish's options as "promotional" at all. It most definitely isn't a way to keep customers like myself who are nearing the end of their contract.

I haven't even been a customer for 2 years and now I have to pay or get roped in longer for something I was led to believe would come in without any such choices. I told the rep his promotion is not very appealing and I would be looking very hard at my own 3rd option, which is to switch.

(sorry for hijacking this thread btw. just wanted to let you know i appreciated your advice and let others in a similar situation know what the options are).

To answer Ptech's original question: He did confirm that the Greenville locals are indeed on Dish in HD

Im very amazed people take issue with paying $59 for a $40 dish and a truck rollout/install to receive hd locals Dish also has to pay for.

I don't take issue with the $59 itself. I take issue with being misled into thinking I was given everything I needed for Local HD when they installed my dish the first time.

Had I not come to this site to get the answer, I'd still be in the dark, still waiting for local HD that is simply not going to come unless now I give them something else. Still paying $6/month for local programming I was led to believe would include local HD with no further action.

It's the principal of the matter that bothers me. Hopefully that doesn't amaze you as much. :)

I still think youre asking too much.

I'm only asking for what I was told I could get with the equipment I received the first time. Not sure how that is asking too much. I'm already paying for HD and I'm already paying for local channels. I installed what I was told I needed. Now to give me what they promised, they want to put a second dish on my house and charge me to do it. So I'd say Dish Network is actually the one asking too much.

When DirectTV went HD in my market (over a year ago) I don't know of anyone who had to install extra dishes or extend contracts to get those channels. I've patiently waited and waited for local HD. And now it's here and I'm just sick.

The whole thing reeks. I don't want two dishes on my house and I sure don't want to pay for it. Heck I don't even know if I can get a signal from this new satellite. And I cannot STAND the fact that I wasn't told the truth when I signed up.

After further reading it sounds like this 61.5 dish could also be used for national HD channels in the future. I have no idea if that's true or not but I'll be calling on Monday to find out more.
