I'm looking forward to mpeg4 SD channels b/c currently the SD channels look like crap (ecspecially on the hdtv).....I wonder if Dish has plans to inform the average consumer of the improved (hopefully) PQ eastern arc will offer...

I agree, but it seems like it is something they would want to inform potential customers about....I wonder if they will....

It will not be called Eastern Arc.:)

I too am curious to see what if any difference the MPEG4 sd will bring. For now from what I have read, the engineers are the only ones to get a glimpse of it. It is still not clear if Dish is doing this to save bandwidth or pq purposes. Or both. MPEG4 sd can have a total of up to 30 per transponder. It will be interesting when the subs get a look at MPEG4 sd. In many ways I find this more interesting than the hd they will add.

I agree completely. I am looking forward (and I hope this is their plan) to uncompressed SD.

We should know more in about a week.

And we can't expect miracles. It is, after all, SD, not HD.

I do not think they will market it at all. I think it will just depend on your market which way your dish will end up being pointed. Those in the eastern portion of the US with better visibility will point to it. I think larger cities will end up on both 61.5 and 129 spots. Then installers will have more of a choice. Smaller markets will only be on one system.

My guess is they won't market it at all.

They wont want people moving to EA as they don't want to pay to upgrade people. However new customers will be put on the Eastern Arc and wont even be told that they are on something special.

Customers who want to move to EA will be able to do so, but at their own expense. This includes a new Dish and MPEG4 receivers if they need them.

I agree, I don't expect miracles, but Tennis Channel in SD on Time Warner was fairly decent on an HDTV, and totally blows on E*. I paid an extra $4 to get Tennis Channel in TW's sport pack, so maybe TW made sure it was decent looking. IMO, it certainly is possible to improve SD PQ viewing SD on an HDTV from what E* is currently providing.

I have 722 receiver and two dishes pointing to 61.5, 129 & 110. What do I have to do to get MPEG4.

I'll just repoint my dishes. Is it just 61.5 so far or are they adding the other 2 locations?

According to this, you can check it out now on 9400 and 9401 if you have an mpeg4 receiver, at least AT100, and a dish pointed at 61.5.

I will be a new customer and want to be sure to get in on the new dish when I set up my account next month; I wonder if the installers are going to still be cleaning out their old equipment first, or if I can specifically request the new dish when scheduling my installaion...

I am sure at first it will be up to the installer / install compny to decide what to install. For namy in the east the Eastern Arc setup will work best. However again its up to the installer / install company.

Scott will us folks in the Southeast be far enough east to see the satellites need for Eastern Arc? I am specificially talking about the New Orleans area.
