VOOM Goes BOOM - update Dish Drops all 15 VOOM Channels

This is astounding! Dish uses the cover of adding new HD content to wipe away 2/3rds of a product line that they have been touting for what, 3 years now?

Not a good way to do this. If I did something like this in my business, I would be hung from the rafters by my customers.

Dish needs to be more upfront with their customers. After being in business for this long, I'm shocked that they think this is still an acceptable way to treat their subscribers.

Sidelight: I can't believe the Kung Fu channel is one of the 5 keepers! Right after they just retuned two of their movie channels, E* dumps both of those channels.

I guess I'm not going to cry a lot if they needed the bandwidth to maintain some kind of reasonable PQ on the new channels. I doubt the VOOM channels had any ratings at all.

If I wanted Dish HD with no Voom, I would go to DirectTV and save money as I have AT250+3 premiums and the $20 HD ultimate package.

I am not paying $20 more for a fishing channel--period.

Ultra HD is one of my favorite channels--they actually talk about fashion unlike reality/wedding shows from hell Style Network.

They will be hearing from me tomorrow.

It is $10 more for 12 channels not $20 for a fishing channel... $20 is all the HD, 10 for the HD and 10 for ultimate

I feel violated! It's a shell game played with our money.

Film Fest and World Cinema are irreplacable!!!

I am livid! I am literally shaking with anger at Dish now!!!

DAMN!

See ya
Tony

Let them go, their time has passed.

There were niche channels that never caught on. The only other customer of the Voom channels was cablevision and that was because they shared a parent with Voom.

These channels where just padding for HD lineups, and as we know Voom had been yanking Dish around by not investing in their programming. So we all knew that this consolidation was bound to happen.

Since Dish receivers report back viewing to Dish, Dish knows exactly which channels are the most popular... At team summit last year Charlie mentioned they used the info to negotiate with providers.

Well it sure isn't the way to be the leader in HD!

I only regularly watched one of the channels that were dropped (Treasure), but I'll only regularly watch about one of the channels that were added (Travel-HD). Sure I might watch a movie on MGM once in a while, but we lost two movie channels that I might've watched once in a while. Smithsonian looks OK, but it also looks like a lot of things that I've already seen in different programs on other channels.

This is not a consolidation, this is a removal of 10 channels.

Have you been reading the comments from ANGRY people who really liked the "padding"? These channel were unique and are irreplaceable!

I'm not defending Voom for not upholding their end of the contract, but seeing as how they have a record of not upholding their contract, what's going to happen if they get disgusted with Dish and decide to fold altogether? Will you say it's a good thing then? (I for one do watch 4 of the 5 remaining channels, 2 of them regularly.)

Good, room for 10 more channels. The only problem that I have is that they will likely be those non-HD viacom channels (MTV, VH1, Nick, Spike).

Dish is still showing the channel lineup in their online guide. I really enjoyed flipping through the Voom channels. All the HD channels were up before midnight, so obviously they have room for them. Leave 'em up for crying out loud!
