OK I want to upgrade from a 622 to 722, but I have a bunch of stored movies and such on my 622. Is there any way to attach both recivers via USB or something and move the movies? What about via USB drive? I see threads that hooking up the USB drive to a different receiver it wants to reformat it? I woudl just add the USB drive, but I see it is still buggy and the pain of moving programming back and forth seems annoying.

The EHD service allows you to hook up an external USB drive to move shows onto it as an archive. Just keep in mind that Dish will format this drive so be sure to dedicate it to just the DVR. You will be able to move those back onto the new 722. The service will cost you a one time fee however. It used to $39.99 but I hear it may have gone up to $49.99. Call and ask if you want that.

But I read someone said when you hook it to a different receiver than it was originally formatted on it will reformat it and lose all your shows?

No, before the latest update it would warn you that the shows were from a different account and that you would have to transfer ownership. Now if you had a drive originally formatted under the one receiver at a time key, it will tell you that it must update the drive and then it will give you access again. The new account key will let you transfer shows to any dvr on the account. If the receiver ever tells you that it must reformat the drive, turn off the drive, reboot the receiver and turn on the drive again and see if that fixes it. If not, it has corrupted somehow.
