Tax Rebates early

Well, I should get mine direct deposited, but my SS# ends in 99 so I will be the last one to get it for that group.

Ours was deposited yesterday and we received a letter from the IRS in the mail today saying we should be expecting our Stimulus Check 5/9.

Even though I did direct deposit the are sending me a check because I used Turbo Tax. This is stupid.

Did you have them pull the e-file fee out of the direct deposit? If so, that's why you are getting a check. I did my taxes through TurboTax, and e-Filed, but paid the fee on a Debit card, and the Refund, as well as my economic stimulus payment were direct deposited to my bank account.

Yep, that's what caused it then.

I did the same thing. My last two are 88. So mine should be DD tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Well I would expect that everyone who is getting direct deposit will have received them by today. My SS# ends in 99 and mine was deposited last night.

Did you read what was said about doing it with a Tax Software company and having them take out the fees from your refund? That is why most people won't get the direct deposit.

Yep, I read all that and it doesn't apply to me.

got this in my e-mail today

Dear Valued Customer,

We want to provide you with the most up–to–date information about the tax rebate to which you may be entitled.

Recently, you may have received a letter from the IRS advising you when to expect your Economic Stimulus Payment (rebate). That IRS letter may have inadvertently left off some important information. Taxpayers who chose to have their tax preparation fees deducted from their federal tax refund will receive their tax rebate in the mail, not via direct deposit.

Our records show that you chose this payment option in TurboTax. As a result, the IRS has determined that you will receive your tax rebate in the mail. This may result in you receiving your rebate on a date later than expected.

This situation, while not unique to TurboTax, is understandably causing some concern and confusion. To help further clarify the situation, below is the most current IRS rebate payment processing schedule, as well as additional resources about the tax rebates.

I hope you find this information helpful. If you still have questions, the best source for the most up-to-date information is Internal Revenue Service (see the "Rebate Payment Questions" link).

Sincerely,

Bob Meighan

Vice President, TurboTax Customer Advocacy

Same here. (EDIT) Ok. Found out the scoop on mine. I did in fact have the fee taken out of my refund. I have a debit charge for Turbo Tax that I thought was for the filling fee. The charge was for the software that was mailed to me. I feel like such a dumd A$$!!!!!!!!!!!

At the risk of sounding stupid, am I the only person who didn't know that it wasn't going to be a flat $600? I got mine today and I was surprised to see that it was only $347. So I went to the IRS website to see what was going on, and there I read that for a single person with no dependents it would be between $300 and $600 depending on income. My complaint is, I can't recall hearing anything in the mass media about it being anything other than $600. Now, I don't read newspapers anymore unless I know there's going to be important local news in them, but I try to watch the news on TV everyday. Usually I'm doing something else at the time so I'm only half-listening until something interesting comes on, but still, all the buzz was $600 this and $600 that, not "up to" $600. Plus, my friends and family don't remember hearing any talk of anything other than $600! (None of them have gotten theirs yet, and now they're not happy.) So either all of us have become so bored with the same old crap on TV these days that it doesn't even sink in, or the media are making the incredibly stupid mistake of assuming that everyone who's earning enough to pay taxes is actually earning a decent amount of money.

EDIT: OK, I see now that we already have a thread about the amount here. I hadn't seen it because I've pretty much only been visiting here for technical info lately. BUT, my complaint still stands. Why was this not all over the media?

Big numbers sound better to voters when passing a vote buying scheme. The minimum $300 and prorations were mentioned, but not as much as the maximum of $600.

The reason you only got $347 is that you only paid $347 in taxes last year.
You can't get back more than you paid in the rebate plan, except for the minimal $300 that was added to make sure most people got something.

Not true. There are people that didn't pay any taxes or very little getting back $600. The reason he only go $347 was probably because he made too much money to get the full $600.
