80 HD chans??!?!!???

I didn't know D* HD channel subscriber count was classified information. Sorry

As of May 8, 2008, DirecTV had 17 million HD subscribers. 7 million subscribe to both HD and DVR. That information was released in their Earnings Report.

Can not find the number of Dish HD subscribers. With three tiers of HD the number may be difficult to calculate. All that I could find is that their subscriber growth rate is very, very low. Wikipedia states that Dish hopes to have 14 million subscribers by the end of 2008. With low growth and loss of VOOM, that number is not likely to be achieved.

Direct has 17 million TOTAL subscribers. Not HD.

Don't forget the lawn channel. After Charlie fertilizes it, you can watch the grass grow. And, given the potency of the fertilizer, it should grow quickly...:D

And don't forget the Poop Channel HD. We can watch the dog poop decompose on the grass in glorious HD. :D

D*'s commerical bashing Dish for carrying channels that no one cares about was a riot a few months back.

Funny thing is not much as really changed.... they replaced Voom with WFN (SD). Who wants to watch the World Fishing Network in 4x3 non HD 24x7? Even better who would want to watch it even if it were HD? Im thinking Charlie got a good penny for a channel claming that it is HD that few care about and runs 4x3 all day long.

I know I know, they added channels that most people care about too like CNBC, Disney etc and because of that I downgraded to the HD only pack :)

What I would like to see is the Charlie Channel- All Charlie all the Time! They could play back all of his promises and off the wall statements - like claiming 95 national channels right before giving Voom the boot. Now this would be a funny channel.

Uhmm...

Thanks...

Looks like the breakdown on the chart doesn't quite show 15...

Are some missing here?
Any HD RSN without "-1" is full time. Even though some may be blue, they are still full time HD RSN's, they just may not have HD programming 24/7; then again, few HD channels do have 24/7 HD programming. The guy whom made the chart also left some channel numbers off and some channels as well. Include some of those.

Remember they count the HD RSN's in that count.
As well as the 19 HD NBA and NHL Season Pass channels that have been without programming since before the finals began in each sport. You can pretty much bet that they will leave these channels in the guide until removing them doesn't hurt their crawl to 100 HD channels.

A number of game-only HD RSN channels don't have a "-1". My FSN HD (426/5426) channel is substantially Mariner home game only it has no "-1".

Go back far enough in the thread and it was about the D* game only RSN's having the -1 channels.

dish is a total marketing scam. They used to have great HD with VOOM HD without Voom HD they have less HD than Directv and charge more money. Everytime I call and complain about Voom HD each person says the same canned line Charlie tells them to say, thank your for subscribing to dish the industry leader in HD? what a bunch of @#$%! Most of their channels are stretched up converted weak channels with real loosers like the weather channel, cartoons, world fishing channel filmed with a redneck handycam, etc.

Then why do you keep calling??

Do you really think if you bitch just one more time, Charlie will break-down and put them back on??

Stop being a psycho and calling those CSRs over and over. There ain't a damn thing they can do about it.

Dish does? Direct does not include these channels in their count and I do not believe Dish does either.

I still what to know where my 80 HD channels are? and my 1 HD RSN is a game only SNYHD. That doesn't count IMO. If D* SNYHD is fulltime ,why is E* not?
According to the chart created on this site Dish's count is as follows:

Variety Channels 28
News Channels 3
Movie Channels 6
Sports Channels 10
RSN's (including out of market and part time) 25
PPV Channels 8

Total 80

Dish does not include the special sports package channels (neither does Direct), since they are just simulcasts of broadcasts from another network or RSN.

In order for you to get all 80, you would have to pay for the package that gets you every channel. This is true for both providers.

OK now out of those RSN,which ones are exclusive only to the 129 satellite?

I don't what Dish puts on what bird. I am not a Dish sub, so this whole Western and Eastern arc and mirror thing is beyond my knowledge and makes no sense.

Most people will get 41 HD channels (from the variety, sports, and news) + their locals and local RSN(s), which means around 45+ HD channels. And even fewer will be adding up to 6 more for their particular movie package.
