Why Do You Hate A Team?

BillDel,

I'm sorry, but I never liked the Bruins.

This is from a competitive standpoint, not personal.

Keep in mind, Buffalo and Boston have been in the same division since day one. As a Sabre fan, you have to find a rival, and the Bruins were that.

Only time Sabres EVER beat them was "Mayday! Mayday!" in 1993.

IMO, Bruins playoff dissapointments don't crack the top 10 or top 20 of Boston sports disappointments/heartbreaks.

How many teams can you name who had seemingly won a playoff game only to have the officials say that they had too many players on the ice and then proceeded to give up ye tying goal on a power play and then lost the game (and series in overtime?

How many teams wound up having one of their home playoff games completed on the road on the road because of a blown fuse?

The Bruins may not have had a moment like Buckner in 86 or Aparicio in 72 but they have had a few mishaps. And those two moments have to crack the top 10.

Could you be more specific?

Year, opponent, etc?

You know, as much as I wouldn't blame a "neutral" fan for resenting the above (I admit I HATE Duke basketball....thank you Dukie Vitale) for all the attention they get, please think for a minute what these teams have in common.

Ratings.

Still, there's only so much one can have shoved down his throat before he spits it back out. ;)

The answer I was looking for was successful teams (and again that kills me to say, since I hate Duke).

BTW, Sabres saying he's sick of the Spurs (and I don't blame him) is making my point. The Spurs are far from a ratings winner, but they are successful, hence the ESPN overkill.

Are you serious? The first was against Montreal in 1979. The second happened against Edmonton in 1988. both moments would be in any article on bruins history. take a lookat the wikipedia article as an example.

Over the years the Bruins have managed to lose a lot of strange series to Montreal. Bul losing in overtime when you already thought you won has to be the topper.

Oops.

I thought you were talking about the crease problem against Washington in 1998.

True about baseball.
Although a .500 Yankees team this season still gets more ESPN time than the Rays, Angels, D-backs, Cards, etc. this season.

I'm just a casual observer of the NBA, but I really haven't noticed more Spurs than either of the four franchises I mentioned earlier. It's not even close.

For the record, if I hadn't already been jaded, I'd probably love Boston after making my first trip to Fenway last year. It was a surreal experience. :)

Ever met anyone who caused you to not like a team? I've had that happen a few times.

I don't like the Red Sox or Packers because of one aggravating guy I used to work with.
Many UNC or Duke fans I've met have been snobs.

So, maybe it's not all ESPN's fault after all. :)

Niner Fan:

Hate Cowboys for obvious reasons. Hate Packers because they were a major pain in the playoffs and owned the Niners back in the 90s, except for the last battle, for the great "The Catch 2" by T.O. in the end zone. Dislike the Patriots because they're so arrogant and are likely cheaters in some way or another.

Please, don't get me wrong, you guys have a legitimate point when it comes to the overkill of certain teams. I'm just pointing out they are successful or rich in tradition (Notre Dame football for example).

BTW, I'm glad you enjoyed your Fenway experience :), it's cool when you see it for the first time. However, when you see other ballparks (your ballpark in Cleveland, Camden Yards in Baltimore, and my personal favorite , the Pirates ballpark) you realize they should replace Fenway. I go to Red Sox games at Fenway about 7-10 times a year and I will miss it when it goes someday, but they really need to start thinking about a modern ballpark with better amenities.

I agree. I remember really enjoying Memorial Stadium in Baltimore for baseball games in the 70's, because it had a real flavor to it. But I think most people will agree that Camden Yards is a better place.

If only Camden Yards had a real team...

It's a five-star stadium with a one-star team.

also, as for college hockey...either you love the MN Goofers or you hate them. I personally hate them :)

I'll elaborate on this. They have been called the Yankees of College Hockey because
1. they always seem to get the good recruits
2. even though other arenas in Minnesota are dilapidated (see the DECC in Duluth or the Glas in Bemidji), Minnesota got a new ROWING CLUB PLACE before the 2 above arenas could get money from the state to update their old buildings
3. they have the ungodly TV schedule...now some teams have a few games on TV or the home games on local cable but each year Fox Sports Net DOESNT show 2 or 3 of their games. So out of a 32-36 game season they DONT show like 3 games....usually its a non conference series and the exhibition game. Last year they showed the Alaska Anchorage game from Alaska (never did before) by using the UAA feed which leads to number 4...

4. the fans. I have never seen a bunch of whining, crying, pissing and moaning group of people. They cry when they lose. They riot when they don't make the frozen 4. I think 5 people committed suicide when they lost to Holy Cross in the NCAA playoffs (ok maybe 5 people didnt die but that sounded good)...When they showed the games from Alaska (remember, FSN didnt have to show them but they decided to), people bitched about the quality of the picture they saw. Hey, Goofer fans...at least you get to see your damn team on TV. Us UMD fans outside of Duluth can only see the games against teams that have a TV contract with FSN (MN, WI, Denver) or other ways of seeing the games (UAA, NoDak). I'd kill to be able to see most of the games on TV.

Blasphemy!

It was the most fun I've ever had while sitting the most uncomfortably in my life. :)

Seriously though, I've been to newer ballparks/stadiums with worse amenities in Fenway.
We went on a ballpark tour prior to the game, and I love the way they've managed to add seats without losing any of the nostalgia.

I would agree that the seats could be more comfortable but there is no better place on earth to enjoy a baseball game. I am in a season ticket pool for Nats games. My seats re great but the experience just does not compare.

I remember the 1988 series power outage very well. Between that and the fog on the ice it was amazing any games were played in Boston.
