Channel 5 , Washington Fox when not broadcasting in HD puts these white dashes and broken white lines at top of TV screen. When they go to commercial they are gone. When going in HD programming, they are also not there.

This appears on both HD channel and the other 5 channel.

No other channels are doing this, any ideas?

Maybe an overscan issue ?

Almost certainly. The dots/dashes are the closed captioning information which is in the interscan between the frames. It means the picture centering or the overscan is not set correctly on the TV. Possible solutions:
(1) adjust the centering or overscan through the TV menu, most likely through the service menu which you probably will not have access to
(20 if the TV is in "pixel" or "dot-to-dot" or "100%" mode, change this to another setting (like 95%). Pixel mode is not really to be used for broadcast TV because of this problem. It is designed for video games or other computer-generated signals.

Adjustment

Hey you all, Here's what i did. I have a Pioneer Elite set.

1. I went to option

2. Position

3.H/V Position adjust

4. Both side to side and up and down were set to 0.

5. I set the up and down to +12 and the lines and dots went away.

Is this what you meant ?:)

This may make your circles not quite round.
Go back and set the up and down, and the sides, to 5, and see if that is enough to get rid of the interference. If not, increase everything to 6 and so on until it disappears.

I went to +10 on both sides and it went away.

Yes,that is the correct section on the Pioneer Elite, but not all TV's have that option.
I have adjusted mine slightly as well, but only like + - 1,2.

Which Pioneer Elite do you have ?
How do you like it ?

I have the 60" PRO 150 FD :up

I love my set !!!

I bought mine back in July of 06, 50 inch model....wow, wonder why I had to go to plus 10 on both ....lol

This was only happening with the Fox channel 5 out of DC.

Yes, it only happens on certian channels, I think I may have had 2 channels they were doing it, basically overscan, My TV is 1920x 1080 so whatever there is, is seen, I am considering getting the 42" 720p panel for the bedroom to replace my 18 year old 27" Sony XBR, except it's still going strong, I hat to retire it before it's time.
That said, I'd like to go HD in the bedroom seeing I already have the H20 in there anyways.

I'm at -3 H and a +6 V

Well that sound reasonable , is it working ok for you now ?

After looking at mine, I'm at 0 and +1

IF your still ahving trouble, go into the same menu that your Positioner is in and see if the Orbitor is ON or OFF, if your still having trouble, turn it OFF, that should fix your problem

I called Pioneer

My set does not have Orbiter function. I did it manually for the fox dc channel 5. Question, if you manually adjust for one channel, will it throw the others off a bit as far as the Horizontal ( the side to side adjustment. )

I have the black bars on each side and I'm a bit compulsive, it doesn't seem to be equal on both sides ...lol

Also , should I even have it set to the black bars. I noticed on the left side toward the bottom the ESPN name might be burnt In a bit ?

IF you set it to change for one channel, then YES it should do the same for all channels.

In your Options section, (may be different for you) do you have something called "Video Pattern" ?

Run this, it will run a white screen for an hour , you can turn it off at any time, but this will take care of your burn in, if it's not too serious, actually it should fix it regardless.

I run mine about once every 2-3 months, usually doesn't need it.
