I am new and the reason I joined is that I am a Directv subscriber and have been for almost 9 years. I currently have the Standard Directv and I want to upgrade to HDTV but I have noticed that when we have bad weather the directv goes out for long periods of time (all evening ) and I only get a usable signal from 2 tranponders.( This is problem that has gotten worse over the last 2 years, when I first got directv I would only have a short outage in very bad weather) I am thinking about moving the dish off of my roof to the edge of my back yard where there are a lot less tress and see if this helps. Directv will upgrade me to HDTV but they want a 3 year contract. I don't want to be locked in for 3 yeas if my signal continues to go out. Any sugestion? Thanks

It's a two year contract, not a three year one.

Relocating the dish will probably solve your problem, but have you attempted to realign it recently? It sounds like your signals are way lower then they should be but I don't know for sure unless you post your signal strengths.

Before doing an upgrade I'd recommed calling them and sign up for the protection plan ($5.99), then wait 30 days. Then call them up and tell then you have a bad case of outages whenever it rains, that way the tech can just check to see if you have a bad alignment, bad cable/connections or just need to get the dish moved. This way you can get the problem resolved since what you're seeing isn't normal and then if it does get resolved you can do the HD upgrade.

Jim,
You have two seperate post related to the same thing in different forums.
I just answered your other post in the Directv forum.

Please try to consolidate them in the future.
Personally, I would have done like you did in the regular D* forum and start a seperate thread, instead of adding it to another thread unless it was talking about the same thing.
Anything else we can help you with ? :)

Most of us regulars check all the associated forums regularly.
Thanks Rad and IWC

Once again, Welcome to the site :D

I agree with Rad, if you can wait the 30 days, this is the best way to go.

How much tree cover do you have where the dish is located now? Do you mainly get this problem when the tree is in bloom, or is it a problem when it is bare also?
