Dish network® meets 100 hd channel mark ahead of schedule

Folks got to remember this is HD Only Plans.. So has nothing to do with those on HD plus SD plans. Yeah I think this should put them at 100 if you count all of the movie channels and RSN channels just like the rest do..
This is were you are wrong. The rest (at least Direct) does not count ALL of the their RSNs towards their total. They count only their full time HD RSNs; the game only ones on Direct are not included in their official total count. If Direct did count these (using the same counting method as Dish), then they would be able to claim over 100 HD channels.

I just wish instead of all these movie channels that show same o thing that they would add some of the main networks. Like FX HD and Speed HD AMC HD so forth instead of all these movie channels..

It is the premium channels in which most providers make a lot of their money.

Well thats what I meant they do count the RSN's the ones that they carry their HD feeds. Yes some dont always have something on in HD like some of the RSN's do but they thats something the provider can not control. So basically they could count it due to if the games are in HD they can show the game in HD.. Like my RSN only sometimes show things in HD not all the time but it still can show them when available.

Not always yes you pay more for them but some folks dont want to pay more for channels that show allot of the same old movies that get replayed allot in the same month. Where when they could add channels that more folks would be able to get which would benefit more of their HD Subscribers. So more folks are going to AMC HD and FX HD to where movie channels allot of folks are not going to pay extra to have them. Thats just my 2 cents..

Either way this is good news and if Dish gets a couple more channels added in HD I might start looking at a all HD plan.. :)

I have a HD tv in my bedroom with a 722 that does the HDTV and a SDTV in another room. I have a 625 in living room for the living room and the garage.

My question is this: What does this statement mean in their press release?:

"In addition, DISH Network is thrilled to introduce TurboHD, the first-ever 100 percent, all-HD programming package in the pay-TV industry, with advanced equipment that works on all TVs. TurboHD offers the most-watched HD channels in four separate tiers and can be viewed on analog, digital and high definition TVs, making it the perfect solution for consumers who have or are considering upgrading to HD programming. All TurboHD packages can include HD locals where available.

“TurboHD is revolutionary to the industry; we’re changing the way people watch TV by offering them all of the top channels – in HD only – with the best high-definition systems on the market,” said Jessica Insalaco, Chief Marketing Officer for DISH Network. “When consumers add HD programming, their viewing habits change – they don’t like to go back to standard definition – so their viewing switches over to all-HD channels. TurboHD will provide the next-generation high-definition television experience by offering only the best in HD programming and award-winning HD technology at incredible prices.”
Does that mean that I don't need a new HDTV for the living and that I can replace the 625 with a new receiver that will down-convert everything in HD for a SDTV?

I am soooooo confused.

I wish they would come out with a 722/622 that does 2 HD feeds and 1 SD feed.... I think its pretty common now for folks to have 2 main HD tv's and an SD in the kids or parents room....

like we have today with hd absolute for 29.99 , it will cost you more : Gold turbo hd pack at $49.99 + platinum pack for $10.00 more so a total of $59.99 or a $ 30.00 increase over the absolute hd pack at $29.99.

Yes, that is my understanding...$59.99 to get all the HD channels, a $30 increase...and it now includes an HD RSN if available...

Where are you guys getting this extra $10?

Turbo Gold- $39.99. "Platinum"- $10. $49.99. A $20 increase. Awful, yes, but why are you making it worse in your mind?

If you're talking about the DVR Advantage version, you're comparing apples to oranges. (Well, apples to larger apples.)

Turbo Gold DVR- $49.99. "Platinum"- $10. $59.99
HD "Absolute"- $29.99. Locals- $5. DVR fee -Whatever it is...lets say $6. Total- $40.99

That's a $19 increase. Not $30.

It's confusing. It's not THAT confusing. Maybe DISH can't do math, but you guys should be able to.

no it is a 30 dollar increase because you have to go platinum to get the same channels which is 50 for gold plus 10.

from the press release on page one.
TurboHD Gold: $39.99/month or $44.99/month with locals channels*

TurboHD Gold DishDVR Advantage: $49.99/month; includes core HD package, local channels and a free DVR receiver; Regional Sports Networks where available

TurboHD Platinum: $10/month – add TurboHD Platinum to any qualifying package and receive HD channels that do not have corresponding SD channels.
currently HD Abs is 29.99/month, 34.99 w/ locals, 40.97 w/ locals and DVR

for the same thing in the future:
HD Abs Gold + Plat 49.99/month, 54.99 w/ locals, 59.99 w/ locals and DVR

It's just marketing nonsense. Don't worry about it.

Actually, it's probably related to Eastern Arc. It's all MPEG-4, so therefore all receivers are HD capable. They are probably trying to get people used to the idea of not having separate channels for HD and SD.

Also, the AT packages have become so bloated over the years. They've been forced to carry so many basic channels through various market forces. This is kind of their way of "starting over".

I give up. Just because you aren't willing to either read carefully enough or do simple math, don't go contradicting people without offering any evidence to the contrary.

Go ahead. Add $30 to your current bill. Actually, I'm offering a new "free" bill paying service, so just forward me the money and I'll make sure your bill gets payed in full every month.

I admire your patience, sir. This thread has been trapped in an endless cycle of misinformation and questions that have already been answered for 16 hours. I'm out. Keep fighting the good fight.

Geez, no kidding. I didn't think it was that hard to understand.

Currently the price of the HD only package with locals is $40.97 (including the DVR fee).

The price of Turbo HD gold + platinum with locals and DVR will be $59.99.

That is $19.02 more.

Truthfully, if a person just read the headlines on here and skipped arguing over Dish's "secret" plans, the minutiae of every press release, or posting on the message board at all, they'd probably live more comfortably. Things will sort themselves out on their own. I don't believe today's date is Aug. 1. The important facts are that there is more HD coming, if you want it, good, if not, ok.
