I was just installed yesterday, a new customer, with an HR21-100 which did an auto-upgrade to software 0x255 on installation. It is connected to a Sony 46W3000 via HDMI, the picture is fine. It is also connected directly HR21 to a Denon AVR1803 receiver via digital coax. The sound on the TV is turned off, the internal speakers disabled in favor of the home theater system. The same setup worked without issue with the TWC Moto DVR it replaced. The installer did not set DD on, so I went in and did. I had a good picture and good sound. The receiver showed DD as the sound source. Then it just stopped working within minutes, still a good picture but no sound at all on any HD channel with DD set to ON. The receiver no longer detects DD either, shows the incoming signal as PL II C, but normally plays whatever signal is fed to it automatically. It does not play any sound at this point though on any HD channel. I can drop down to the SD channel of the same broadcast and do have PL II C sound. I've tried multiple resets, both menu and red button. I've also tried turning DD OFF, saving it, backing out of the menu, then going back in and turning it back ON and saving it to no avail. The System Info shows DD as being set ON. The AVR receiver shows no detection of Dolby. This is brand new, 4 hours from installation that this bombed out on me and I am not a happy camper. It takes away from the HD experience. By the way, if I set DD to OFF, I do get sound on both the HD and SD versions of those same channels, both showing PL II C as the input. Why can't I get Dolby Digital as the input signal, it did do so for about 15 minutes?

Everyone has run into a stone wall trying to get something to work. I have 7 sound inputs to my Onkyo and sometimes for seemingly no reason one of them won't work. Someone will help you find a way as long as you ask nicely. You could have a bad DVR but not likely. Is there anything in the set up menu of your Denon that needs to be changed? If no one here solves it for you try the AV section on the AVS forum. There are lots of Denon and Directv users that may have your answer. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. Everything is properly set up in the Denon receiver. It actually worked for about 10-15 minutes before losing the DD input signal. The Denon will auto detect any input signal and automatically play whatever comes in. It has worked with the TWC Moto DVR for a couple of years without issue, even changing automatically from PL II C to the DD 2.1 and DD 5.1 signal depending which is present. The 2.1 sounds lousy being no center channel, which our system is designed to make full use of, crystal clear speech through a good quality 3-way center speaker. The installer just unplugged the HDMI and COAX cables from the Moto and plugged them into same ports on the HR21, so the AVR receiver would require no changes as it would get the same, or similar input signals.

This issue is resolved and I'm a happy camper again:

Actually, it happened when I attempted to enter the codes to allow the remote that came with the HR21 to work with the TV and AVR. Although I use a Harmony 880, my wife prefers the old fashioned way of multiple remotes. So I was trying to make life just a tad easier for her by enabling the HR21 remote to control the Denon volume instead of the TV's volume. The volume on the remote kept bringing up that the "TV Sound is Fixed", which it is, locked OFF with any remotes controlling volume on the Denon. I didn't catch that, my wife did. She said the little window actually went quiet when I was in the HR21 Remote Setup screens. I had the volume too low for me to hear and was concentrating on the Denon to respond or not. Of course it never would respond to the D* directions as it has a separate Power ON and Power OFF button and would not respond to just Power as a toggle feature, so I tried using Volume Down. Although I had not intentionally changed the Denon setup, apparently, I somehow changed the Denon away from Auto Detect trying to program the D* remote. A reply on the D* Tech Boards got my wife thinking about what she saw happen, she passed it back on to me, I set the Denon back to Auto Detect ... I'm a happy camper again.

Or will be providing we don't get the so far one-time blackout of all channels again. That was resolved at least by a DVR Reset. That was strange too as we could bring up the Guide and the Menu, but select any channel and we had a black screen.
