Ok, well, maybe I'm wrong...but I was under the impression that Dish had 15 VOOM Channels and dropped 10 of them a few months ago.

I don't have 6 posts so I cannot give you the link --> engadgethd

For example, wasn't Music HD one of the VOOM channels? And I think that I still have that one...anyway I'd have to do more checking to make sure. But if I'm right, and they do still show 10 of the 15 VOOM channels, then maybe they still have the rights to the other 10 until whatever contract gets ix-nayed.

That situation lasted about a day. Take a look a t the title of this thread.

DISH dropped all of the VOOM channels.

These were the 15 VOOM channels taht DISH used to carry

Go back and start with Post #1 in this thread and you will see the progress over a 24 hour period where Dish dropped 10 and then dropped the other 5.

Some of the VOOM channels were good, but too many repeats.

But now with ErectV announcing even more HD, its time to bring some of the Vooms back.

Ok, thanks for setting me straight. I started on page #1 of the thread, but I guess I misread / misinterpreted the situation.

BTW, Geronimo, I did think that MHD was one of the VOOM Channels. Maybe I was thinking of the Rave channel? That one was cool, but I thought that there was also an MHD channel up in that range of channel number 9460's or 9470's? Anyway...whatever.

But still, the larger question is did the contract (or whatever arrangement existed) with VOOM expire, Did Echostar escape it via some clause, or did they simply reallocate the bandwidth (and if so is it only a temporary thing)?

At this point each side is saying that the other breached the agrement and the matter is in court. While an out of court settlemetn is possible it is not vry likely.

They are both in court as mentioned, the bandwidth has been reallocated, and Voom will probably not be back. It's not definite but I wouldn't look for them anytime soon if the unlikely were to somehow occur.

Yeah, I need to keep reading for sure. I'm picking it up in bits and pieces in other threads. Sorry to be redundant on the point. I guess I'm stepping on my "noob."

Bummer. The VOOM channels were cool, but they didn't sell any airtime that I ever saw (which I liked). That would mean that Dish was paying VOOM, what? 100% of their revenues? Where else were they making any money? I had thought that they were exclusive to Dish. I wonder where they get any revenues now that they're tied up in legal fights?

On the bright side...only two more posts until I can add URLs.

They were also on Cablevison---which owns 80% of VOOM. theya re still on those systems.

Voom's parent company has/had some of the channels on their cable service and there are apparently some European contracts. Dish holds something like 20% ownership but under the deal to get their satellite and carry the channels Dish paid monthly for every subscriber and that fee had gone up to @ $6/mo/sub.

Yeah I very much appreciated no ads and original aspect ratio broadcasting - 24/7 HD.

Dish has 20% ownership Cablevison (which carries all 15 channels) has 80%.

When VOOM was separate service they had 21 channels. After that service folded they signed with DISH and Cablevision for 15 channels. The other six channels have not existed for some time.

Actually when VOOM first came to DISh (before the affiliation agreement) there were 10 channels on DISH and DISH stated that they would soon carry the "remaining" stations. But at no point did DISH ever have 21 channels and the other six were never "realaunched" aafter the Death of the separate VOOM service. Much of this thread has been spent arguing about the number of channels contemplated in the affiliation agreement. I don't want to rehash all that but it would be inaccurate to say that VOOM consists of 21 channels. the remaining six were never carried by DISH or Cablevision.

Sorry about the typo on the DISH ownership %. It is 20%.

I thought Voom was 21 channels of which Dish only carried 15.
That's yet another point of contention, which may or may not be directly tied to Section 10 of the Spend Requirement (Affiliation Agreeement). In a nutshell, E* says VOOM didn't meet the spend requirement of 100 million per year, while V* claims the spend requirement is a reduced percentage of 100 million (15 channels vice 21) as described in the Affiliation Agreement; E* says VOOM is 15-channels, VOOM says it was 21-channels, but that both partied agreed to reduce that number to 15.

like I said I don't want to rehash the argumetns about the affilaition agreement t but the other six channels don't exist so you really can's say ythat VOOm consists of channels.

If you really want to split hairs there are three other channels that are avaialble in one or more foriegn markets. But that would take you to 18 not 21.
