It's been a while since I've posted my random thoughts, so I feel now is the time to do another version, a college football-heavy edition.

1. What does the 'D' in BillD stand for?

2. What does the 'C' in SandraC stand for?

3. Who do you see winning the AL and NL MVP awards?

4. Who wins the Cy Young Awards?

5. I find it funny that some of us bash Big East football- the ACC has one BCS bowl win in 10 years, yet David gives the All Cupcake Conference a pass?

6. I think Florida State won't make a bowl game- they are past their prime, yet they still act like it's 1992.

7. Does anyone remember when Michigan and Ohio State used to have artificial turf? It seems like a while.

8. Honestly, I am sick of hearing about how great the SEC is. It's becoming annoying, almost to the point where I am rooting for their big teams to fall flat. The SEC is like the Cowboys- people talk like it's the greatest thing since cliced bread. (I'm not a Cowboys fan- I'm just thinking of a similarity)

9. Charlie Weis is not an 'offensiv genius.' Who's deserving of that title? (I say Mike Leach- they deserve more attention than the Irish)

10. If North Carolina makes a bowl game, which one will it be?

11. Call me crazy, but I think USC won't make a BCS game. I don't trust Mark Sanchez at QB.

12. Why are Auburn and Texas ranked so high? IMO, it's about perception and reputation rather than talent. I wouldn't be surprised if Auburn loses the Iron Bowl, and the Longhorns WILL NOT BEAT TEXAS TECH!! They don't have the horses to run with the Red Raiders. War Eagle = OVERRATED!

13. Over/Under: 50% of all the seats filled at this year's ACC championship game?

14. Will USC/Ohio State turn into another 'Game of the Century' with hype overflowing?

15. If the Sabres had played in the Patrick Division instead of the Adams, I think they would have won a Stanley Cup.

16. The Memphis Grizzlies are a worst franchise than the Islanders. They have made many dumb player decisions, have never won a playoff GAME in their history- and let's not forget their years in Vancouver, which were comically awful.

17. If lance contributes to my 'useless players' section, I'd like to nominate, for him, Heath Shuler as the most useless Redskins player ever.

18. I'm sure Sandra could name some useless Rangers players in her time as well.

19. Did you know August 6th is 'National Root Beer Float Day?'

20. What would you rather have- a team with bad defense and great offense, or good defense and pathetic offense?

3. Who do you see winning the AL and NL MVP awards?

Better question is why seperate awards? You don't see that in other sports.

4. Who wins the Cy Young Awards?

Same as above.

9. Charlie Weis is not an 'offensiv genius.' Who's deserving of that title? (I say Mike Leach- they deserve more attention than the Irish)

Mike Leach is definitely no defensive genius.

10. If North Carolina makes a bowl game, which one will it be?

Let's remove the if from this question. I want to say BCS, but that's probably not happening...yet. Chick-Fil-A or the Tire Bowl in Charlotte would be nice, anything else, especially Gator, would be a waste of time.

11. Call me crazy, but I think USC won't make a BCS game. I don't trust Mark Sanchez at QB.

You're crazy. USC is scary good. They may not win it all, but they will destroy the competition in the Pac 10.

TT doesn't have the defense to stop Oklahoma and don't be surprised when they find a way to lose to someone lame like Texas A&M or Oklahoma St. There's not a guy on that team who knows how to tackle, and not a coach on the staff who knows how to teach them.

13. Over/Under: 50% of all the seats filled at this year's ACC championship game?

I'll say over. It can't be worse than last year, especially since they moved it from Jax to Tampa, and BC likely won't be back. However, they won't get this fixed until the game comes to Charlotte.

14. Will USC/Ohio State turn into another 'Game of the Century' with hype overflowing?

Probably.

20. What would you rather have- a team with bad defense and great offense, or good defense and pathetic offense?

The Ravens won a SB with the latter, I've yet to see any great teams with the former, hence my skepticism of TT's chances this year.

14. This game will be hyped just like every other BIG game.
Just remember, the loser is NOT out of contention.

15. Sabre's win the Cup playing in a different division ?
WHEN ??? Not this past year.

Jimbo

3. Who do you see winning the AL and NL MVP awards?

Manny Ramirez! :D Think about it, overall he was the Red Sox most consistent player and if his arrival propels the Dodgers to the NL West Crown? j/k

5. I find it funny that some of us bash Big East football- the ACC has one BCS bowl win in 10 years, yet David gives the All Cupcake Conference a pass?

6. I think Florida State won't make a bowl game- they are past their prime, yet they still act like it's 1992.

In a way your answering you own question, Florida State was the ACC. People still think FSU is a D-1 power, thus ACC gets more "credit" than it deserves.
Penn State, Notre Dame, UCLA and Nebraska also fit that bill.
The Oakland Raiders are the poster child of this thinking, next year will be 25 years since the Raiders won a Super Bowl.

11. Call me crazy, but I think USC won't make a BCS game. I don't trust Mark Sanchez at QB.

USC is over-rated this year. Not just Sanchez but the WR/RB's are young. I see plenty of 16-13 type games for USC. But the PAC-10 is in transition, ASU has a rough home schedule, UCLA might take to Neuheisel(Like Erickson at ASU last year), Oregon and Cal are retooling. USC might be BCS bound by default.

19. Did you know August 6th is 'National Root Beer Float Day?'
Guess I'll be at an A&W on the 6th. :)

20. What would you rather have- a team with bad defense and great offense, or good defense and pathetic offense?

If I'm watching on the TV the high scoring game, at the stadium the low scoring game. The reason is that on TV a higher scoring game will keep me watching versus at the stadium they kill beer sales after the 3rd qtr., but will be have enough of a buzz that the game will seem closer than it really is.

5 - Tonight, in all the world, not one 11-year old boy will go to bed praying "Please, God, let me grow up to play for Rutgers." The Leastleftovers is WVU, and eight schools that have 1/10th of its resources. For WVU, its the shame of running up automatic wins (and the failure that is losing to schools that have no business on the same field as it does, while the True Majors knock each other off. For the rest, its just collect your BcS welfare and pretend somebody cares. The sea of empties that is any non-WVU Leastleftover game is a proof enough that nobody cares. Fifteen minutes on campus on a Football Saturday in any True Major city will disabuse any thinking person of the myth that is the Leastleftovers. And True Major includes the ACC.

6 - Athletes have "primes". College teams do not. FSU will be back.

7 - I remember the transition year when Michigan played on green painted dirt. You would think a big time school like that would have somebody that could get grass to grow. Of course, MSU is the ag school.

13 - The ACC Championship is just another proof, as if any were needed, that playoffs will not work in college football.

16 - Memphis is just another example of what the NBA really is.

Like any 11-year old wants to play for Wake Forest, Maryland, or Virginia.

Who cares about how much a city/campus cares about its team?

The facts don't lie: one BCS win in 11 years for the Atrocious Cupcake Conference is just appalling.

The Big East, in my book, will always be superior than the Absolutely Crappy Conference.

I don't follow that. You could just as easily say that the success of the SEC Championship is proof that they will succeed. Any credible playoff proposal would have the early round games on campus, where they would be guaranteed to sell out. Only the Semifinals and NC would be on a neutral site and those games would be in as high demand as the BCS games are now. Saying that playoffs would not be a success at the gate is as lame as saying that the players couldn't handle the physical strain of playing a couple of extra games or that university presidents actually care about the academic welfare of the players.

That had to be special. I lived in Atl at the time. The weather was nasty for that SB week. Good thing there was dome due to the ice storm.

anders,

we all know you bleed Tar Heel Blue,

but what teams do you root for in the major sports?

And, since you're probably from the Carolina area, I assume you've heard about the Steve Smith incident.

yes, it was great!! and boy do i remember the ice storm!! lol
to be honest though, i was also at the cardinals 1982 WS championship and that was better. you were at HOME. the whole crowd ( well 99%) were cardinal fans. at the SB i get the impression that ALOT of them never seen a rams or titans game before, you know rich business men on a perk. i was also at the SB we lost to the pats in new orleans and same thing....except for the outcome!! lol
and same goes for baseball when we won in 2006

6. Florida State will be there again, this is not a person where they get too old to play. Too much talent int that area of the country and the school has too much of a football tradtion to let it die. Like other big name football tradtional schools, they all go through a phase...it' called reloading.....;)

8. I get tired of hearing about the SEC as well, but proof is in the pudding as they say. An SEC team has played a Big Ten Team for the National Championship the last 2 years....and the Big Ten team/s is an ugly a$$ whippin' O-fer! And they have won it 3 out of the last 5 years....what much is there to say??

9. Charlie Weis is a lousy head football coach that was hidden behind a COMPLETE coaching staff at the Patriots.....now that he is out there for all to see, you can see the farse that he is! Have another dougnut Charlie....

And finally:

5, 6, 8, 10, 13...obviously, you dislike the ACC...since when are you suppose to hate a conference and not a team....??!! That's usually done by guy that like crappy college football teams.....;)
