Cablevision spinning off VOOM?

As a reminder, VOOM is 80% owned by Rainbow Media LLC and 20% owned by EchoStar. As I mentioned weeks ago, I thought Rainbow Media would close-out EchoStar's equity interest in VOOM (probably using affiliation fees VOOM claims EchoStar never paid) and James Dolan would breat ties with VOOM HD Networks LLC. You be the judge!

"Cablevision shares rose last week after Dolan, during a call discussing second-quarter earnings (which were above expectations), said the company would focus on closing what called a “valuation gap.” Options believed to be likely action candidates include spinning off the Rainbow programming assets as a separate company, possibly followed later by another attempt to take the company private."

FWIW, I had sent an email to VOOM a couple of weeks ago and received this response then:

Dish Network will no longer carry VOOM HD Networks. We are currently looking into other cable and satellite providers and we hope to be available to you soon.

Now there appears to be some interest from DirecTV on the VOOM front. It could be that VOOM is not as dead as some people here think.

To be honest, Cablevision could sell VOOM (along with Rainbow Media) without it affecting their court case against E*. Liberty Media could then distribute some or all of the VOOM channels through DirecTV and others. I think this may actually happen since the Dolans have been wanting to take Cablevision private.

If VOOM ends up on D* it's going to make Charlie even unhappier than he already is. Months ago I put up the question "Would Charlie have dared to remove VOOM if it were on D* as well?" The answers have all been "absolutely not".

It will be interesting to see what Charlie does (if anything) if it seems VOOM is indeed coming to D*.

This could actually be bad for voom as it was. New management brings change. If Liberty is more interested in AMC, IFC, WE and Sundance than they are in VOOM - It is not outside the realm of possiblity that Voom could get written off outright (they own it, so they could do with it as they please).

I haven't seen that banner for about 2 weeks. Some links like Animania have stopped working however.
I check in on Worldsports for scores etc.

I think it is a cache thing. I just went to voom.com (voom.tv), and I'm still getting the overlay "To our DISH Network viewers" page on my other computer which I never use to visit Voom.com. The PC I use every day stopped doing the overlay in late June.

Hmmm....

After all is said and done, I do not think I would switch at this point even if Voom was on DirecTV.

I can't say for sure, but I'm not going to worry about it until Voom really is on DirecTV.

...VOOM's popup banner ("We Regret Dish Network pulled the VOOM channels, blah, blah, blah") disappeared yesterday when accessing the VOOM HD Networks website? Perhaps they have decided to move on and consider other opportunities.

As others have noted, it's been gone for a while now. Perhaps there's a hidden meaning in the banner being removed. My speculation only, but I think early on if Charlie relented and restored the VOOM channels, everyone would have been happy. But at this point I think VOOM would not be back on Dish even if Charlie begged them.

Why?, you say. More speculation on my part but if there's any substance to this VOOM possibly coming to D* story, if I were D* I would require that VOOM not be allowed to return to Dish as a precondition to purchasing VOOM.

Finally, I don't believe VOOM would be disolved if D* bought them as these are valuable properties. Certainly not all 15 channels but for sure a few and that's what D* would add to their channel lineup. Maybe 4-5 VOOM channels. After all, they would now own them and they can do as they wish.

If all this comes to pass we will then see how many Dish subs jump to D*.

If Rainbow is put up for sale then anyone could buy it. It would be funny if Charlie bought. If D* buys it then that would make me seriously consider going to D*.

Charlie has a 20% stake in VOOM and I think this will stop any sale of VOOM to direct TV as Liberty would not want ot be in bed with DISH. In other words I can see Charlie asking for a whole lote of dough to give up his 20% stake and that may well stop Direct TV from buying rainbow media--now Charlie on the other hand---get mydrift Dish could also own Rainbow Media and kill off voom this news is just rumor and should be treated as such.

All tha liberty said is if it is up for sale we would look at it.---If viacom is up for sale liberty would look at it also---it does not mean that their is now or in the future any interest on Liberty to buy Rainbow media.

I didn't see anywhere in that article where it said Directv was interested in Voom.
Exactly why I posted earlier that this might actually be BAD news for Voom. Just because the parent company of Voom gets bought by the parent company of DirecTv doesn't mean that the two will be one. They could just as easily take voom out back and put 'er down. It will be a business decision. Whoever buys Rainbow will have to decide if Voom will make or hemmorage money.

I think Swanni worded the headline (Voom Owner) just to get a rise out of everybody. By the time Rainbow would ever sell, Voom will probably be history, or sold off beforehand.
