The best star-spangled banner at a sporting event..

...so I am watching the Olympics and they show the new Nike commercial of the "Redeem Team" and they have Marvin Gaye's version of the Star Spangled Banner and I decided to look for it in YouTube.....and all I can say is:

I heard it about 10 times and there is NO OTHER version that can touch it. The hairs in the back of my neck stands every time I hear it! I spent almost an hour listening to all the versions I could find....no one came even close.

Please....Lillian's version is a nice rendition. But NO ONE.....is in the same zip code.
He MADE he national anthem COOL than the obvious patriotism cool....Lillian just made it sound nice. I don't ever remember seeing the game or every watching the anthem in its entirety.....but I am almost positive.....the the coolest cat out there and would have gotten MORE panties thrown at him than the NBA players and all of Hollywood....would have been Marvin Gaye!

These posts reminded me of something I never mentioned:

You may not know this, but I'm also a wrestling fan (I added something to my signature), and have been for a while- going back to the Hogan era in late 80s' around that time.

I never have a specific favorite, though.

Actually I saw Brooke Hogan with the Hulkster... she did the national anthem at a Nascar race last year and did a pretty good job...

I hated the Marvin Gaye version. I don't like when people screw around with a song and change the way it is sung. To me it isn't the same song.
