Hi All,

I'm sure it's been covered but I couldn't find it in a quick search.

D is offering ST for the $74.99 package (the Premier) per month. I was wondering if I purchase a receiver off Ebay and install myself would I be eligible for this package price with out having to make a 24 month commitment?

Any info is appreciated.

thanks.

I see that you stated every receiver is a lease. Is it impossible to own a receiver on D?

I believe every mpeg 4 capable rec. is lease.
They started leasing about 2 years ago now, it is much more convenient, I use to BUY ALL my rec's , now that I see how fast technology is changing, I'm really glad they have a lease option now.
I can get a lease rec. from D* for about a 1/4 of what it would otherwise cost to buy it new.
For example, the HR20-700's and HR21's run about $ 850 to purchase outright, I would not have 3 if I had to pay that price.
Leasing is also much better if you should ever have trouble with them, if you have the Protection plan, they check out your problem and either have a tech replace it or send you one via Fed Ex.

I know it's not what D* wants you to do & I love my service but I know many people that did this very thing in the past. I'm not sure if they maintained a small basic plan, used old equipment (owned) or put their service on vacation hold during the off months. I don't think you could do it year after year but a 7 month vacation hold to see the world in year one; maybe? Don't forget to take pictures of kerplakistan.

NFL ST / SF is moving to MPEG4 so the "old gear" idea would not work past next season or maybe this season either. You might want to check into those details first.

He is right on the Mpeg-4 gear as they pestered me for months to replace my favorite receiver because it was going to be dead to ST this year.

I can still see the NFL channels on the old receiver & am awaiting to see if they can see St this year.

sunday ticket will be mpeg4 this season. robert mercer, of directv, told us that last year. plus, if you read the superfan fine print, it says you need a 5lnb dish and appropriate mpeg4 equipment.

Okay I'm ready to pull the trigger. I am going to purchase the hr21-pro.

What problems will I run into problems if I am a new customer and want the $74.99 (Sunday Ticket) Premier package?

Is there a decent # to call and speak with a knowledgeable rep?

thanks for the previous info

unless you dont Return the receiver when you cancel your account and Directv charges your Creditcard an upwords of an 400 - 700 dollar No return fee

Then you own an Expensive Receiver :D

I'm going to purchase the HR21p from a local DTV dealer. Why would I have to return it if/when I would cancel service?

Just make sure you're able to take advantage of the offer with the way you are going about it. The offer is for install and all that jazz, including commitment.

Wouldn't want you going through all of this just to find out that you're paying XXX for a receiver full price for sunday ticket + your package rate all because of some moral victory of them not locking you into a contract.
