Dish Network Prepaid Question

Sorry Steelersrule, me bad (I think?). The date you had in that thread for the prices was 4/1/07, Wasn`t sure if its the same price now. I guess I could kick my lazy ass up and pick up a phone and call Radio Shack. :)

Here is a little FYI that sort of made me mad. I got my stuff hooked up at my place in Canada and was ready to sit down and watch the Indians/Yankees game on WTBS Sunday and guess what? It was blacked out, so I am guessing from now on I will have to give a zip code from somewhere that doesn't have a pro sports team (Dakota's/Virgin Islands/etc). Live and learn.

And yes the dish is clamped to a tree :)

Another FYI with the Green Dot deal. I have done this twice and it works. Call the 888 number go through the motions and then after they ask if you want to use the full balance tell them no. They they will tell you how many days of programming you can get. Then hang up before anything is confirmed. Doesn't tell you the monetary value ,but you can get the general balance.

you guys rock......

just turned on dish pay now, i like it, i'm using a 3900 receiver and it works with a ddp lnb, didnot need the dishpro adapter (111690), not saying its the right thing to do, but it seems to work for me.....thank you so very much for this forum, its a good learning tool. dish 500 system with the 322 receiver...and also using the green pak card, working great, its true you can buy one day at a time, just had to try it.....lsk33:)

Anyone know why all of a sudden I cant get the receiver to be activated. I have 7 days of programming and the dish was left on ,but it never activated. Its connected to 119 ,but i get an error for the other sat (im only using 119 1 lnb) .It worked fine the other two times i used it ,but not now.

lsk33 did you mean you are using a DPP+ twin LNB? If that is the case you may burn out the power supply in the 3900 over time. Legacy receivers weren't designed to meet Dish Pros power needs.

ooops..

hey boba, you are right. dpp+, so far it works great, but should i start using the dishpro adapter(111690) whatever you think is the best, since i already have the(111690) adapter its not a problem. thanks for the info. lsk33

Morbius,

Ever get this figured out?

I think you said your cabin was in Canada(or maybe I am wrong), and maybe:

1. It was struck by lightning?

2. The wind caused it too mover ever so slightly that you "lost" 110?

3. The 110 side of the LNB just went bad? This could happen.

I can't figure it out.

Hope you had better luck.

No! I tried it the day before i left and I just got back after a week of being up there. Anyway It was locked on 110 and NASA came in fine ,so I figured it was a ok when I first tried it. It said something about the smart card wasn't correct or not allowed .I'm going to change to a new lnb (shouldn't matter since NASA works) and see whats going on. I will let you know what the full "error" was and maybe that will shed a bit a light on it. Sort of made me mad since i had a week up there ,but oh well I still had my FTA stuff and a few Canadian channels off the antenna.

This is what is says on the screen after once again i tried to activate the service.

Attention 005

Your smart card does not currently have authorization to view or purchase this program. Please wait or channel up or down.

Its pointed at 119 with a 75% signal. Error on 110 ,but i only have one lnb, so that is ok. I get a few channels NASA, some shopping channel and the dish preview ,but that is it. Actually i get more with the fta receiver. Anyway everything worked fine the last 3 times i used it and the coax wasn't attached to the receiver so a lightening strike is ruled out. The only thing I can think is the card reader went bad. I might get a hold of someone from Sadoun and maybe the might have an opinion since they sell them.

Also I only had AT100 ,so everything was on the same sat and I even tried a different lnb.

Hi, i have a dishnet dish already at my premises and would like to hook up the 301 prepaid receiver. I can't see the face of the dish as its mounted on top of a two story roof, but the switch block clearly says dishnet on it and the install/wiring appears to have been done by a pro. This dish is an oval, obviously not the 500 model and is pointed just west of south.

Can anyone say what this dish might be as well as the sats it points to and if this would possibly work for the prepaid system? Also of note this is a 3 line(lnb?) it has 3 coax lines coming into the switch box and 3 out feeding the downstairs and 2 upstairs rooms.

thanks

---

Update: already got the kit (just dish and receiver) tried it and no signal, suspected maybe the inhouse multiplex system was to much for the signal and direct ran the wire to/thru the window by TV and sure enough signal on 110-119 and 125(i think), so it looks like a little rework of the wiring will be required. 60 seems lo compared to what I've seen listed, is it to low and what is the exceptable signal levels? I didn't get the installation box which had a guide I guess, so if anyone could help it would be appreciated. Also the sysinfo showed 2 feeds and a dual(feed i guess) so would it be better to use the dual?

thanks

Ok so just in case anyone else is wondering, the answer is yes this unknown dish works fine with the 301 prepaid system.

Called the Dish customer activation number programmed in the firmware and got the actual ivr number needed from the csr, she was helpful if not overly knowledgable, but did know the number and offered that I would need smart card, receiver, activation card(green dot works fine) and of course zip to get activated. Worked no problem once i noticed the extra digit for the smart card and receiver that show up in the activation screen, but is not on the packing list notice.

Also noted that the ivr number is listed at the greendot website that Steelersrule posted earlier in this thread. Now I'm trying to figure out if i needed to get the Greencard Visa/MC or if the moneypack is all that is needed, I'm guessing the later, but I picked up the first thing i saw that said Greendot.. ah well.

I can see the limititaions already, w/ the no HD/locals/multi lines, but this is a stopgap until I get AT&T dslams dropped in my neighborhood and can sign up for the Uverse fiber media which I will definetly be getting when available. Don't wanna give Dish my credit number or any excuse to try and charge me for 2 years.

Time to watch TV...

One more note for anyone doing a first DISH activation like I just did, after you select the package for viewing (100,200,250 or whatever) and finish ivr activation and the receiver downloads the channel lineup info, it can take another 10 mins or so for service to actually "light up" for you, I don't know if this is just the data propagation delay in the billing and provisioning servers or what, but don't panic or freak when your channels dont come on immediately.

The "Greendot MoneyPak" is all you need(ranges from $20 to $1,100 on each moneypak now).

The MoneyPak is actually used to "reload" the prepaid Credit Cards like the one mentioned above, or to be put towards bills directly. A list of companies that allow this can be found at www.getmygreen.com

Dish and DirecTV are two of the companies that allow this.

I wish they would expand the Dish NOW!/YA! service at this point, but I am more than happy with the way it works.

Adding the Superstaion packages, or prepaying for PPV, or one of the sport packages would be nice additions. Even a prepaid HD service would be nice.

Oh well.

They have fixed some of the issues with the service. HBO(channel 300) and Showtime(Channel 318) don't randomly disappear like they used to. I think the last software upgrade may have helped fix that, or something else.

All in all, it works great.

Sorry but I'm confused. No one at DISH can answer questions accurately about prepaid and Radio Shack dealers are no better.
I went to CVS for the Green Dot Money Pack. I found Green Dot Visa and Master Card. They cost $9.95 to activate. They had a Green Dot Money Pack for $4.95 but the manager said it was just to reload your original card. I'm confused as to what I need.
The DISH customer service said you cannot just buy a day or two, once you activate it runs until it runs out. But that is just with the DISH card right? She said it didn't matter.
Please help me.
And I can get a new prepaid receiver on eBay for half of Radio Shack cost!

The GREENDOT MONEYPAK is the one you want/need. Not the credit card.

The one with the fee of $4.95 is the one you need. It will have(this is the current layout of the face of the card as of 9/10/08 since I got one just this past week at WalMart. Best place to go since the cashiers seem to know how to load it.) the words "green dot" in a green space surrounded by a white circle with the word MoneyPak in BOLD GREEN LETTERS, with Money laid out in the upper right hand corner. It will have CASHIER INSTRUCTIONS on how to load it at checkout for those who don't know how(the cashiers that is).

YOU DO NOT NEED A PRELOADED CREDIT CARD TO USE A GREENDOT MONEYPAK.

I know that the above is in caps, and represents shouting, but I just want too emphasize the point that a preloaded credit card is not needed, just the Moneypak. So don't listen to anyone who tells you this.

Once you load the Green Dot MoneyPak with Cash(lets say $20 as an example. It ranges from $20-$1,100), and then have the $4.95 added to the amount, the total to get the greendot moneypak will be $24.95.

Pay, and the receipt printed out at the register(this goes for when buying from WalMart. At other stores like Rite-Aid, this may not apply and the number on the bottom of the card is the one you use), an ACTIVATION NUMBER will be printed on the receipt.

This is the SUPER IMPORTANT NUMBER you will need when calling Dish NOW!/YA!, so SAVE THE RECEIPT, ALWAYS! Even if you get it somewhere else, save the receipt anyway.

So when you get home and call Dish Now, and you tell it you are using a Green Dot Moneypak to order programming, it will ask for that activation number. Type it into the phone using the keypad, and then follow the prompts from there.

A detailed description of what to do is type up on the first page(I think) of this thread by me. I tis long winded, but no detail is left out, although some of the info is a little out of date(can't seem to get 2 days of programming for ordering 1 day at a certain time anymore. Oh Well). Just read that.

With the GrennDot MoneyPAK you CAN order 1 day at a time of prgramming, but the the DISH NOW! CARD, which is found at Radio Shack in $40 increments, you have to use the full amount towards the programming. You have no choice. So in this case, the CSR has NO IDEA what they are talking about, which is COMMON unfortunately.

i would not order a standalone Dish NOW! receiver from EBay, but that is just personal bias/experience.

I would go to one of the trusted Online dealers I listed in an earlier post in this thread(on page 2 I think), and order it from them.

And make sure you get the LATEST AVAILABLE Dish NOW!/YA! receiver, which is the DP 301, and not the Phillips 3900.

And if there is one newer than that, get that instead.

How do you replenish MoneyPack?

Thanks Steelers! You're a great source of information. I am going to try this and bought my Green Dot Money Pack. But how do I reload it? I know I can direct deposit but I am self employed so no regular, set paychecks from an employer. Hope I don't have to go to CVS and buy a new card at $4.95 each month or two.

I wonder as to why the local stations and regional sports networks are not available on the DISH NOW!/YA service.

Steelers: Still waiting to receive my 301. I was looking in CVS at all the different cards available. They have Master Card and Visa "gift cards" in different denominations. Only $3.95. I'm wondering if those would work like the MoneyPak. I'm going to try it. Maybe a longer life than 90 days and a dollar cheaper. I'll let you know if they work.

Hi Steelersrule

Thanks for taking the time to explain how the GREEN DOT MONEYPAK works. It is very helpful to people who anticipate using the DishNOW service.

Please note that we sell the systems on eBay and on Sadoun website. The receiver is either a 3900 or 301 Factory refurbished and in a sealed box.

Either one should work with a Dish500 with a Legacy TWIN. However, the 301 is a DishPro and that is what you need if you already have the DISH500 with a DishPro TWIN LNBF.

If anyone has any questions about what model we have at the time, please give us a call at 1-888-519-9595
