From what we were told in Green Bay at the latest retailer confernce, this is going to be a killer HD receiver.

Possibly to be named a VIP922, it will have a built in sling box, a 1 terabite hard drive, and a new remote with less buttons but having a jog wheel like an Ipod.

Reports tell of 100+ hours of HD recording time and 5 times that for SD.

Possibly to be unveiled at the Consumer Electronic Trade Show in Las Vegas.

I cant wait to see this monster.

Regards to all

Man sounds like what I said back in May when I first saw the unit. ;)

Yes the 722s has been renamed the 922.

We will be hearing a lot about it at CES. :)

And yes the sling does HD.

I like what James Long said in regards to your post at dbstalk.com.

"It will be less of a rumor when the conference is named and someone posts confirmed details. We've heard a lot of rumors over the years that did not come to market.

(My favorite rumor is the DISH whole house receiver that was like having a cable headend in your service entrance. Or is it the rumor that the 942s would work with MPEG4? Or is it the constant "new HD on Tuesday" rumor that starts every time DISH tweaks an uplink. Rumors can be fun ... but after being led down the garden path a few too many times I prefer fact based rumors.
:) "

I say it's wait and see.

Someone mentioned ordering a new Dish remote with learning. Is that actually available?

My TV cannot be controlled by previous Dish remotes, so learning would be helpful.

Here are the details of the 922s from Team Summit in May. (Note it was names the 722s at the show and has now been renamed the 922)

http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/135657-team-summit-general-assembly-notes.html Also I talked about it in more detail at MultiChannel News. Here again from May 16th, 2008 Innovation Shines in Nashville - The Satellite Dish - Blog on Multichannel News

Note that we were the first and only site to be at the show and report on this exciting new receivers. (It should be noted that Dave Zats of ZatsnotFunny.COM was also there but could not talk about the new receiver until I did because at that time he was a Sling employee)

Also note that at the same time that we were meeting with Charlie Ergen while the other guy James Long was living at home with his mommy with his thumb up his butt.

The other site claims that nothing exists until it is officially released.

I have been working with both Dish and Sling on the 922 and I have been talking to them a lot about it over the past few weeks. It is going to have a MAJOR role at CES this year. And I can't wait to see it.

In fact before the original poster of this thread posted this message I actually talked about the 922 in my MultiChannel News column yesterday. Dish's Eastern Arc to Expand - The Satellite Dish - Blog on Multichannel News Hows that for timing. :)

While James Long lives in the world of denial and pretend things dont exist I will continue to bring you the latest Dish Network and DirecTV news first. (And we are getting a lot better on the DirecTV side of things which I know they are not happy about) :)

I bet James Long a dozen doughnuts that the 922 will be shown at CES in January and will contain Sling Technology and all the features I discussed way back in May.

James Long is the Bagdhad Bob of the satellte world, but I can't be too hard on him, he is a major reason for our success. So many people have been driven away from the other forum because of James and have joined SatelliteGuys that I should probably thank him. He has been one of the keys to our success.

Anyways the 922 looks like it will be a very exciting receiver and I can't wait to see it and own one for myself. :)

That's why I nominated him for "Satellite Guy of the year" a couple years back. ;)

I am not too familiar with Sling. With this can you sling hd to another hdtv in your house without having another receiver via IP.??

i believe you can sling hd to another house across the country over internet if you want

That should cover the next room about 200 ft. away.;)

How many HDMI outputs will it have??

I would like to hook up at least 2 hdtvs if possible.

 You can't? I was laughing so hard I had tears streaming down my face!
so does that mean that the TV2 output will be able to do HD instead of just SD?????
No, although they are working on that functionality for another receiver.
Well, nuts. I suppose this also means that you can only stream the sling HD output to a single media player at a time. Is there a TV2 sling output, or only a single sling output of any type on the 922?

Finally got 501

Signal Problems on 110...
