On Weds evening the Starz Edge channel started exhibiting intermittent flashes of a black screen but the audio remains working.

Anyone else experiencing this with their VIP722?

I've reset the 722 by default but it still has the flash:confused:

Yes. I think there are a couple of other threads here that talk about the same issue. I think it's been narrowed down to be a problem either with Dish at their headend, or Starz themselves. I'm seeing it myself, also, but only on the Starz channels.

I had this happen Tuesday, not sure if it was on Starz Edge, but it was a movie about a reporter and I got the feeling that it was like related to an imaginary camera recording the scene.
This has not happened before or since on any channel.

I've seen it on 3 different movies on Starz Edge. It happened on the 622 with L614 and L613 and on the 722 with L613. It doesn't happen on any other channel.

I have it happen almost every evening, particularly later on at night, on Starz HD channels. The later it gets, the worse it gets. I'm using a ViP 211, so it isn't a DVR issue.

Anyone contacted Dish about this problem? Any answers?

Never mind, I did find the thread under the Technical Discussions, which hardly anyone reads. The thread doesn't help as all it confirms is other are seeing the same thing that I'm seeing.

Carl, there's no solution to the problem yet. It's a Dish Network problem and we need to contact them. Email dishquality (at) echostar (dot) com and report the problem.

Do you have 61.5 or 129 for your HD channels? I have 129.

I wasn't bound to sit on the phone with Manila customer support so I just sent an email to tech support,if they reply with the brown paper bag response fine,if they don't respond that's fine too;)

Its not just STARZ. I've got it on several shows I've DVR'd right now. Its more pronounced on STARZ it seems, but its happened to me on several other stations including ones with commercials. I didn't keep track since I thought it was possibly it was my DISH losing the sat signal temporarily.

Its getting annoying.

Here's part of a reply I received from dishquality this evening...

We apologize for taking awhile to respond, however, we have been using your email for the engineers. This has been made a priority. We have this dropping to black issue on what we call the Hit List. This means Monday through Friday we are meeting with the engineers daily and discussing this topic. This dropping to black has been very hard for us to catch because it seems to be pretty intermittent and on various channels. Today we caught it on MaxHD, which is good because now the engineers are trying to track down the equipment that is causing this. It happens so intermittently and quickly it is not even setting off our alarms. So the good news is that we are catching it now, we just have to figure out which piece of gear is doing this and sometimes that can take awhile and other times a few minutes. But rest assured this is on the top of QA’s list to get resolved. We have also caught some of the digitizing and freeze frames.

Interesting! Glad to hear they're working on it!
