Every so often, the wife and I try to have an 'at home' datenight were we pick a movie from the 'expansive' DVD library in the home theater and I try to make a 'theme' dinner to go with the movie. (yes, I know...there is a TBS program that does the same thing...but I like mine better! ;)

It the past, some themes have been relatively simple. Like for "Gone with the Wind", just made some southern style BBQ as described in the book (12 oaks style). "Casablanca" I made moroccan chicken. Or just some ethnic or regional recipes to compliment the setting of the movie, etc...

Other times, I get too creative...like for the first Pirates of the Carribean movie I made "carribean jerk chicken on a plank". For the "Hulk" I made a cajun dish called "angry shrimp". For Jaws I made grilled shark (mako shark steaks to be exact), and the one that my wife says was the absolute worst ever...for Saturday Night Fever I made a quick and easy stir-fry shriimp and linguine recipe, and simply called it "you can tell by the way I use my wok, its a movie night no time to talk." (its amazing she still had an appetite after that one...)

Well...this time, I found a recipe that is certain to TOP that one...tonight the movie is "Iron Man", and the dinner will be....

Flat-Iron Steaks in an 'Armor'etto marinade, served with hot blonde pepper pots!
(yellow bell peppers stuffed with spicy couscous) ...and a spinach salad... ;)

Recipe and pictures to follow...

Angry shrimp sounds good.

It was. Angry Shrimp is a pasta dish served at a cajun restaurant here in Chicago called "Heaven on Seven". (link for the curious)

Heaven on Seven

I attempted to duplicate the recipe by taste and a little bit of internet research. ;) Came pretty close too...used a standard arrabbiata sauce recipe from the internet and threw in an extra clove of garlic and doubled the amount of cayenne pepper, and you know what? It STILL wasn't as hot as the original was in that restaurant! (This place prides itself on its ability to produce heat...really...)

Anyway....threw it on top of some linguine like the original and it was a decent enough dinner, none-the-less...served it up with a light Cotes du Rhone and watched the "Hulk"...

Wife wants to watch the movie "Interview with a Vampire"...the one with Tom Cruise...

Naturally, something with a New Orleans flair would be good...but I can't think of anything cajun or creole that goes with a really deep red wine.

(I tend to pair a light red Cotes du Rhone with cajun/creole type dishes...its red, and mild so it neither clashes nor ignites with the meal.)

While I don't have any food suggestions, we watched Interview with the Vampire last night too! What a coincidence.

Oh, Vampz, something just came to mind that would be perfect for "Interview w/ the Vampire"........

Ratatouille Soup! Once you see the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about.

OH! I saw the movie! One of my favorites...

BTW...VampZ26 actually has a meaning...when I first started posting on the internet years ago around the time Bram Stokers Dracula and Interview were big movies, my handle then, and still is, vampz26.

Vampire + Beretta Z26, which was my car at the time...

anyway, I digress...

I'm thinking about a new orleans recipe for Shrimp and Mushroom Casserole and a french pinot gris....

BTW...your suggestion reminds me of another dinner/movie theme combo I did. For the movie Ratatouille, I did make...well...Ratatouille...but the Linguine was awesome. I kind of made up the recipe by taste...

I browned two thin round steaks (not the tenderest cut, which is why I prepared it this way) with garlic and olive oil in a dutch oven. Then I poured in one small can of tomato sauce, and an equal portion of red wine. Tossed in in the oven at low temp and let it braise for 2.5 hours...then served the steaks over linguine pouring the gravy over the pasta...let me tell you that tasted incredible...

Well...the theme dinner for the movie was..."linguine and ratatouille"...lol...

Movie: Interview with a Vampire

Menu:

New Orleans Shrimp and Mushroom Casserole

...and a Salad Auvergnate (Salad from the Auvergne) which if anyone has read the Lestat books, thats where Lestat was originally from in France...

Also, serving it with a White Liore Valley French White Wine...

That ought to do it... :)
