***Where did this "$50 UPGRADE FEE" come from?!?!***

So, I was just on the dish network site using Dish Builder to get an idea of what it would cost to get my parents set up with Dish Network (I'm already a customer, signed up this past February.) I selected Bronze HD package and I get to the screen where you put in how many TVs. I start with 1 HDTV, and I want DVR service with it. So my charges on the right reflect this correctly. But when I add a TV, a $50 UPGRADE FEE is added! I was surprised, because when I signed up 9 months back, there was no such fee. Is this some new fee that Dish is trying to F--- people with? Anyone have success waiving it? I got on the chat and was told that I can get the ViP 612 (single tuner) for free, but the ViP 722 (dual tuner) is hit with the upgrade fee which, like i stated, was not the case when I signed up.

That's the difference between a ViP612 and a ViP722.

612 is Free/722 is $50 more but well worth it.

That's the difference between a ViP612 and a ViP722.

612 is Free/722 is $50 more but well worth it.

plus the 722 does 2 room and the 612 doesn't. Thats why it costs more then the 612.

Don't know what you mean by this statement. I've been a Dish sub for years and I used Dish Builder to sign up my parents a few months back.

I signed them up for a 722, 612, and 211. The installer brought 2 722s and a 211. He was happy to go get a 612 for one of the 722s. Big mistake I found out later! Should have taken the 2nd 722 as it is far superior to a 612. The 612 is very dissapointing. Like others said, $50 more for a 722, but well worth it imo.

Bottom line is when the actual install happens any friendy installer should be able to set you up exactly how you want.

The only Differences that I know of are the 612 won't do any of the interactive Games that E* offers"YET" No Picture in Picture,and the Hard drive is smaller 30 hours vs 55 Hours. Other they that The 722 isn't far better at all. I see more 722's with problems on this sight then 612. I have 2 612's and not 1 problem to date. I also have a 622 thats 18 months old and not 1 issue.

The installer wouldn't have been able to activate those receivers anyway. Dish has a 4 TV lease limit, so you'd have had to buy, outright, at full MSRP, the 211, and pay for installation. 722s count as 2 TVs, even if you decide to use them in Single Mode.

Larger hard drive, PIP in single mode (i don't pip much, but I DO swap often), VOD movies are in 1080i HD, much quieter.

Yes it does. So do the 622 and 722. However, only the 722 has non-1080p VOD in 1080i HD.

You need hdmi and 1080p tv to watch 1080p VOD.

On a 722 you can enjoy the remaining VOD movies that are not 1080p in 1080i HD with component connection.

On my 622, and my parents 612, VOD movies that are not 1080p are SD only.

On my parents 722, VOD movies that are not 1080p are 1080i HD.

I could not get anymore than the 2 622s on lease, I had to buy my 211. I've tried for a year. How did you manage it.

If you don't mind me chiming in again, as I already posted, it is now in their "sole discretion."

What this means, who knows, but I would guess they look at account history, autopay, commitments, stuff like that. Or they spin a big lottery wheel. Who knows?

Doesn't hurt to try again.

Even 2 weeks ago I was refused. I have had DISH for 5 years. My 3rd commitment ended about a month ago. I even threatened going to Direct. Oh well I own a 211 now.
