My 211 DVR function is activated

I didn't realize he asked you if you can record your particular OTA channels. My assumption was it's technical question about the receiver capability.
I assumed he was asking about my lament over not being able to record one and watch another channel. If it was a technical question, I believe I also covered that, however, that is limited to one OTA and one Dish signal. In the event that two Dish channels had something I wanted to watch/record at the same time, again I would be stuck.

As can be seen by my signature, this isn't a grave concern for me as I do have three VIPx22s in my primary viewing areas, two in the family room and one in the master bedroom and the 211s are in the garage/workshop and front/spare bedroom/office. I use the one in the garage more than the front bedroom and mainly for music (classical) since, do to the distance from SF again, I have problems picking up the one classical station in the area.

Oops, I've started rambling on again.......sorry:D

Smith, P, You are right, this is a tech forum so I should always assume tech question rather than personal.:)

My question was rhetorical. Based on prior posts in this thread, it had been established that one channel could be recorded while watching another as long as the two channels were on different tuners (i.e., one on the Dish tuner, one on the ATSC tuner). Your lament sounded like you either couldn't or weren't aware that you could record off one tuner while watching the other. If the situation was the former, then I was prompting the further exploration of your issue. If it was the latter, then my post would be informative to you.

In any event, it is now well established that watching and recording with the ViP211 and an EHD is limited to the two available tuners in the 211. If you want more capability, spend the money and pay the monthly fee for a Dish DVR.

Smith, P, your cryptic posts aren't helpful, informative, congenial, or even amusing. You are becoming a strong candidate for my Ignore list.

Can you use something like the Western Digital HD Media Player to play back movies from your EHD on another display device such as a video projector with out the 211 hooked to it?

211 S/W Version for EHD

I just replaced my 501 yesterday with a VIP211. The unit has S/W version L454 on it as of this a.m.. I believe that you have to be up to S/W version L523 in order to call and add the EHD ????
Thanks, Gerry

Have you been able to use the automated system or is a CSR trying to activate for you? Are you in an MDU(apt. building)?

When i plug in the EHD i get the msg. an external usb device has been detected and we are checking for compatability. The 2nd msg asking me to call 1888241205 to activate device which i have done 3 time to no avail.

Alright, I had this same problem...I had CSR's try to activate my service 5 different times without it working. Try this...when you call this number, it recognizes your phone number...if that number is on your account, you get transferred to the CSR. Try calling from a number not associated with your account. When I did this(after entering some account info) I was able to use the automated service. The system activated my drive within about 30 seconds. Now here's the thing...if a CSR has supposedly already "activated" your service, then they have already charged you the 39.99 fee. If you use the automated system, you will be charged an additional 39.99 fee. Obviously if that's the case, call a rep and explain and they'll credit your account for the extra fee. Good luck and let me know how it works for you.
