SlingGuide - Problems

What wireless adapter are you using on your reciever? Everytime I thing I have found one I see alot of bad reviews on it and cant decide which one to get. I have bought a linksys WRT54G2 Wireless-G Broadband Router to use.

While it's a little pricey ($100) I chose this gaming adapter:

Linksys - Dual-Band Wireless-N Gaming Adapter - WGA600N

I went with this one because a friend had one and raved about it. It works great for me with my 622 and I like the small footprint....

For one requiring a wireless connection to the Dish receiver, is a wireless (gaming) adapter considered superior to the Slingbox/SlingLink wireless solution for the SlingGuide product?

I got into the beta, and have the receiver connected to the net; that part works fine, I have an IP address. I then did the web activation. Got the code, entered it, and am now in a perpetual connecting to receiver.

Wondering if I have a router fireall issue I need to deal with. Although since it was able to generate a web activation code, I would think that I don't. Ideas? BTW, my router is a Linksys VPN Firewall Router.

SO, occasionally - about 1 out of every 3 times I try to connect to Sling Guide - it actually does; and I can see the grid and various options, but anytime I try to do anything like watch tv with it (I usualy have my slingbox player open at the same time) it does not allow me to; saying I need to change the preference for live tv, but of course, there doesn't appear to be any such preference setting anywhere.

This is a pretty hald-a@#'d beta from what I can tell. Or am I missing something?

Amazing, I post that, and try the Sling Guide again, and this time it works like a charm - allows me to set a timer, and even set the tv to watch a channel. Dang I could have fun with this - messing up my wife; she'll have a SIRIUS music channel on, and I'll change it to sci-fi, from the office. :D

Of course, thats only when it actually works. :)

I just my invite too ...

Really cool ... as noted already though ... the lack of OTA is big.

Yes, I see the timers ... kind of ... don't see the actual channels on the timer, just "All Channels". Don't see OTA recordings either ... thought that was kind of odd.

Pretty slick though ... I was able to review what was going to be recording this week. I actually noticed that something was going to be skipped that I was not aware of. Deleted a timer, created a new timer ... problem solved! Pretty cool ...

Am I missing it, 'cause I don't see a way to specify "All episodes", "New episodes", or "Once" when creating a timer ?

Also, I didn't look that close, but what does the guide show, all channels or does it only show what you're subscribed to ?

This thing is seriously buggy. It works, it doesn't work; it says the receiver is not online (even when it is). Annoying as all get-out. And no place for real feedback; no forum for beta testers; nothing.

Anybody had Fox News HD or Fox Business SD show up in the grid for them yet? I'm not seeing them on mine.

There's nothing on these channels that I'm really interested in recording, but I figured it'd be a nice test to see how quickly new channels get added to the sling.com interface.

You're right, this will be a good test. I don't see them in my grid either....

Just got the email and set it up..... I do have a sling box so I'm watching a 5 hr. block of music videos I recorded off of VH-1 at my office... Deleted an old timer and changed channels with the guide....

Very cool... The virtual remote sometimes burps (enter 200 and it puts in 22000, etc...) using the guide makes that problem go away....

Good start.... I like the grouping of recording folders along with jpegs of the programs and detailed data....

So for IPhone users it's great that there is an application for the beta. Anyone heard if there are plans for a Windows Mobile application? I know there is a Sling Player for Windows Mobile.

I got the beta invitation today while at work. I had my wife read me off the needed numbers from the 722 and that all went through fine. If I try to access the receiver though, it just sits at 'Connecting to receiver. Please wait...' anyone else had this and did it eventually connect? My wife said there was a message on the 722 about waiting 15 minutes...but that was a couple of hours ago.

Thanks.

David
