Hard Drive Bargain Watch

Have they fixed the problem with FreeAgent drives? I have a Free Agent Pro 750 and had to turn the "sleep" option off for it to work or else it would crash. Now it runs 24/7. I see a lot of people recommending them. Last I heard that problem had not been fixed.

I thought I read on here that Seagates now come with software such that you can plug it into your PC and turn off the sleep function.
Yes that's correct. Not out of the box like the others.

Is that 1.5TB on a single drive? If not it isn't going to do you any good as an EHD for your 622/722.

And when they rolled out that DISH-certified version of the My Book, why didn't they base it on the WD Elements EHD? I have a 500gb WD Elements that I picked up at Target for $68 about a month ago on clearance. It has the same AAKS-series Caviar Blue HD inside, but has a well ventilated aluminum enclosure. It just barely gets warm to the touch when playing back stored content, and goes to sleep without any issues when not in use. On top of that, it looks great in either silver or black and is extremely quiet.

Seagate does have a 1.5TB single drive offered as an internal, I could only speculate that this external could contain a single physical drive. Good advice dlsnyder and also note the externals must have their own power source which this line of Freeagents does have in order to work with the 622/722 VIPs. I wish more people felt comfortable to just spring for a docking station and swap drives like folks swapped spouses in the 70's.
