Would you "move"?

I am located in central MS and am considering "moving" in order to get HD LIL. It looks like I have three choices if want to receive both HD and SD locals. Memphis, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. Any suggestions?:

Pick the one closest to you to give you the best chance that the spot beam reaches you.
Note that the spot beams for SD and HD can be different sizes.

I'd go with Memphis but that's just me. I can't remember exactly where Ridgeland is...if it's in the Columbus/West Point/Starkville DMA, do they even have HD OTA? Not making fun of the area either...some of my best years in college were spent in 'Vegas.

I am seriously considering it. I am in Birmingham and want PBS HD badly...there are two counties in Atlanta that get a couple of Birmingham stations through significantly viewed so it would work out perfectly.

ya that is a sweet deal to get a few of your "real" locals through significantly viewed. thats super hard to find and a awesome bonus.

I am in southeastern mississippi, and the Birmingham spotbeam reaches here at 97% signal strength. I imagine you are within that beam also.

Just had a thought. There is an area around ridgeland (not sure the exact zip code) that would allow you to get locals two different markets (jackson is one, perhaps BR is the other). Not many areas are like this in the USA, however you are very close to one. Might want to do some research on this, if I remember what it is called I will repost.

SD locals are fine also. About 60 miles south of meridian. In Wayne County

If an SD spotbeam doesn't reach, the chances of getting an HD spot are approaching zero.

on 99s I'm getting SS 98 on TP 21 & SS 99 on TP 22. On 101W SS 0 on TP 28 & SS 100 on TP 32. So it appears the beams are different shapes. Either that or TP 28 is not needed.

95 on that transp. Are you sure that is where the SD locals are located? Best Advice I can give is try it and see if it works, if not change to a different one

99s
Trans #3=82
trans#15=96
trans#16=38
trans 17-24=0,16,0,51,95,96,95,95

on 103s
Trans 1-8=0,12,0,60,0,42
Trans 17-24=0,49,0,21,95,0,0,0

Maybe that will help you out some. However I can not remember which sat or transp birmingham is on. I had seen a list somewhere that showed that and a general spotbeam map, but sadly can not find it now.

Edit: I assume all of these are for HD versions of locals

If I am remembering correctly, transp 21 or 22 are the ones you would need for the HD locals. Again, that is best guess, but that seems correct.

Based on the charts I have found Birmingham is on 99(s) TP 21&22 for HD locals and 101W TP 28&32 for SD locals. I get excellent signal strength on the HD spots but not for the SD signal. So it looks like Birmingham is out for me.
