Season opener is one of the happiest times of a Pirates fan's season. But as any true Pirate fan knows these days, it's usually all downhill from here. Maybe this season will be a miracle one!

Don't get too worked up their big guy. You guys played the worst team in the country. A big win was expected. BTW, how'd Florida luck out by getting to open the season against the lowly Nats?!
I think the Marlins are building an excellent team. I love Maybin and Hermida (not to mention H-Ram). I think they're a year or two and a few arms away, though. They need to keep their nucleus together.
Marlins have very high expectations whether they playing the Nats or the Mets. This team wanted some improvements over last year...and that was speed and defense.....and hopefully they found that. They WILL be in the thick of the division chase, barring any injuries. 84 wins in THAT division was no fluke. ASK the METS.... They have THE BEST set of young pitchers in the majors...and definately one of the top 3 starting rotations in ALL of baseball. A big win was ALSO EXPECTED on your end....and you guys only came up with 1 run against one of the worst pitching staffs in the majors....

Kevin Millwood is in a contract season for the Rangers and was pitching some filthy stuff. He looked good yesterday. With that said, Cliff Lee and our offense was off, so I'm not gonna make excuses.
We're off today for some strange reason, but get back to it on Wednesday. Look for Fausto Carmona to get this team back on track. BTW, I don't know if I said it before, but I expect Fausto to end up with a better ERA and more wins than the reigning Cy Younger, Cliff Lee this year. If the world hasn't yet learned of young Fausto, they will shortly.......
The pitching is fine. They have the pitching to win NOW! What they don't have yet was steady defense and a BIG left handed bat. IF they had that, they would be THE TEAM to beat in the National League....but, they do not. Just watch for a kid named Gaby Sanchez...he didn't make the club to big, bit if he pans out, could be the BIG Lefty bat they need.

The rotation is extremely young. I think Nolasco is the real deal and Miller is mediocre. If 2 of the 3 remaining starters (Sanchez, Johnson, Volstad) can pitch the entire year up to their potential, then you're right...thats a very good rotation. I'm just a little leery of young pitchers.
The bullpen is a little rough.
Miller is the POSSIBLE 5th starter. When Johnson came back for the 2nd half of the season, there was NO BETTER pitcher in the majors. Lost only 1 of his 14 starts last year....he gave up 7 runs THAT game in 4 innings....after that, he never gave up more than 3 runs per start...ending up 7-1 with a 3.11 era.
The relief pitching is still a little suspect, especially in the setup role. The signing of Kiko Calero and Leo Nunez will help a ton.
I absolutely get what you're saying. The potential of that rotation is really, really high. But as we know, young pitchers whom a lot is expected from flame out at a fairly high percentage. That's all I'm saying...I'd feel a lot better about the Marlins if they had a few known commodities in their rotation...
I was really hoping they would have signed Pedro Martinez as a 5th starter. He pitched VERY well in his stints during the WBC and was able to still generate lower 90s with no discomfort or pain whatsoever. Miller is the ONLY weak link in that rotation and his issue is whether he has the tools, his issues are all in his head.

Obama will throw out the Nat's first pitch. The Nationals home opener will be against the Phillies on April 13th.
