I would go with George Jones and "He Stopped Loving Her Today" for a love song.

Talk about an impossible question..... :)

I'll go with A Day in the Life by The Beatles.

So true. Off the top of my head I would call anything from the early Chuck Berry catalog as being more influential to R'n'R then "Stairway to Heaven", which didn't influence anything. I would call the Beatles the most influential band in history, and it's not even a close call. They changed everything.

Ok, forget about "influence".

Just greatest song, ie: lyrics and composition. It's hard to argue with SwtH.

Dang you juan, now I have that song "stuck" in my head...:D
"Well I was drunk the day my Mom got out of prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train" :D

I would have to say it's a tie between one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century (according to Wikipedia anyway, I had to look it up to see who wrote it)..."Unchained Melody". The other one would be "Stardust".

For more modern songs..."American Idiot" from Green Day and "I Don't Care" from Fall Out Boy are superb rock songs.

Following those...anything by the Grateful Dead.

This 62 year old gray hair would have to vote for "My Girl" by the Tempting Temptations. Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers is also right up there.
