I live in Western NY and am a D* subscriber. Because of trees I can only barely get the main Sat at 101 and cannot see anything west of that (102, 110 or 119). I was considering E* as an alternative. Many E* HD channels are on their Sat at 61.5 as well as my local HD channels (which I cant get on D* because fo the tree problem.)

Question. If I want to keep my D* subscription for SD channels and subscribe to E* for HD and Locals, does E* have a cheaper package that would only allow me to receive the HD channels I'd like to have off the Sat at 61.5?

E* has the Turbo packages which are HD only packages except for public interest channels and the SD counterparts of the HD channels. They are $15 - $18 cheaper than the Classic packages. Unfortunately there are some HD channels that the Turbo packages do not receive like Fox News, Fox Business News, Nick, BET, VH1, MTV, and one other if memory serves. See the E* homepage for what's included:

Turbo: DISH Network - 1.888.825.2557
Classic: Satellite Channels - HD Satellite Channels - DISH Network

Seems like a waste of money to keep 2 packages though. All of E*'s programming can be received from their eastern arc which consists of 61.5, 72.7, and 77W.

First off E* locals don't include Ch 7 (ABC), 17 (PBS) and 49 in HD, so you will need to get them OTA. Your best bet would be Dish DVR Advantage Turbo Gold HD for $39.99 for the first 6 months and then reverts to the actual price of $59.99. You can add the HD Plantium HD package for an additional $10 per month.

I'm in NY and your telling me I don't get CH 7 (WABC) in HD thats news to me.
I know I don't get CH 9 (WWOR) in HD or PBS 13 (WNET) in HD.

Thanks to all. I wasnt aware of the E* "Eastern Arc"....sounds promising given my situation with the trees. I'll contact a local dealer to see what they can come up with.
