My neighbor is trying to hook up two satellite boxe's one in livingroom and the other in bedroom with a spliter hooked up to one cable and it isn't working is there anything he can do to make it work.

Splitters may only be used with the latest DIRECTV equipment.

If your neighbor hasn't upgraded their entire installation in the last few months, the answer is no.

Please have him call directv for installation. If he doesnt have an SWM system (single wire multi-switch) then it wont work. SWM has been available for only about 6 months, and only works with directv's more advanced recivers. If he hasnt been installed in the past 6 months and doesnt have directv's advanced recivers, he needs to call directv for installation.

He needs to run a second cable from the dish to the other sat receiver. What dish does he have? The newer technology, SWM, will work. But, only with the latest receivers.

What these guys haven't mentioned yet is the new equipment is leased. That means if your neighbor upgrades to it, he will commit himself to a contract to maintain service for 24 months (12 months if he does not take a DVR or HD).
