Next Winter Classic at Fenway Park?

Fenway Park as it might look on Jan. 1, 2010, when the Bruins play an as-yet-unnamed opponent in the NHL’s outdoor Winter Classic.

I got to go to the classic at Wrigley, and it was a blast - an unforgetable event.

Fenway would be a cool venue for the next one.

Rangers vs. Bruins? I know they like to get the NY teams in big things. Montreal had an outdoor game and (not that I don't like Montreal), promoting Montreal doesn't grow the game in the US, where it needs to grow.

I thought Gillette might have been a better fit because of the sightlines and seating capacity.

But three things worked in Fenway's favor:

1. Playing in the actual city of Boston
2. Potential conflicts with Patriots playoff games
3. The novelty of Fenway

That's the rumor. Ice is nice at Fenway for Bruins. I'd love to see a Boston / Montreal matchup on New Years Day!

They are pretty much reporting it as fact on NHL Live radio show, today. It looks like the Commissioner will make the announcement at his 4:00 PM call in show. Too bad it wasn't being held in Toronto, because then I make get a chance to attend to my second Winter Classic. I was at the first one at the "Ralph".

How were the ticket prices? I forgot about the outdoor game in Montreal. I'll be lining up to try and score tickets for me and my 2 sons. Don't really care who the opponent is. It's hockey at Fenway Park!

In Buffalo, it was done by lottery , after season ticket holders were served first. Each season ticket holder was guaranteed an equal amount of the number of season tickets they had. It was a great time with tailgating in the parking lots before and after the game, plus the League had an NHL Experience set up right outside the Stadium. If you can get tickets, you will never regret it.:)

Montreal has not had an outdoor game. They hosted the ALLSTAR game this season and they played Edmonton in the original outdoor game called the Heritage Classic held in Edmonton back in 2003.

Technically, it doesn't need to grow in the Boston, NY areas either.

Sorry, they played in an outdoor game, 2003 is the one I was thinking of.

I was behind home plate (center ice) about 20 rows back (which is good, too close and you can't see) and the ticket was $225. Upper deck tickets were the premium seats for $325 (opposite of what you would think, but a better view for this event).

Wow, I guess we got a bargain in Buffalo. Season ticket holders got equal number of seats for the same price as their HSBC Arena Tickets. I sat in upper deck four rows up at the faceoff circle in the Pittsburgh end. They also had about 10,000 obstructed view seats (too close to ice, to see the entire surface for $10 each. ) They were great for someone just to be part of the festivities, plus watched on the jumbotron for the obstructed view part.

Hopefully MN has one of these when they do the "Hockey Day in MN"
They've had high school games outdoors, including the one a couple years ago on Baudette Bay (right on the border) when it was BRUTALLY cold

They could have one in either the Twins stadium or the Goofer stadium (TCF Bank stadium)

They could do it in May. Still pretty cold there then, isn't it?:D

May I suggest for future considerations.......

Red Wing vs. Penguins, Stanley Cup Rematch at the neutral site of.......

Cleveland Browns Stadium! It's halfway in between Detroit and Pittsburgh. Plus, Cleveland would love for the opportunity to see a live professional hockey game in their city.
