NHL Hot Stove Thread

Listen, I don't want to say the guy is old, but he was there with Moses at the great parting of the sea. I believe he is 47 currently, and really didn't play much this year. He did say that he still wants to play, preferably with an Eastern Conference team.

I knew he was old for a hockey player. I figured he would retire finally.

I am officially voting the Florida Panthers THE WORST run franchise in ANY SPORT. They traded away THE BEST PLAYER(Jay Bouwmeester) they have for a couple of bags of peanuts and a six pack....while still having NO GM.

...what is REALLY sad is that is barely got a blip on the sports radar down here....

...IF the Dolphins or Heat would have traded their best player, while not having a LEGIT GM....this city would be rioting as I type this.

...I am not a big hockey fan, but I have seen some of things this franchise has done and how every single type of media has gone nuts on them for some of the things they have done, but I believe Panthers deserve more than this....

Puhleeeeeeze! We all know what franchise is the worst run in any sport. #2 would have to be the Clippers. The Panthers may fall in line after those two. Just in case you forgot who #1 is:

THE DETROIT LIONS - REBUILDING SINCE 1957!!!

Let me help you - Great defenseman, dirtiest player on the ice, clubhouse cancer. For the most part a huge A-hole. But now he's your A-hole. Kind of like Bill Laimbeer was Detroit's. He was an A-hole, but he was our A-hole. Catch my drift?

And of course the Flyers take him. That is all the Flyers know, get cheap shot artists.

Holland said they have about $4M left under the cap, and he likes to stay about $1M under for flexibility reasons. I would love to see Hossa here, but there just isn't enough money without sacrificing our depth via release or trades.

Maybe he feels he has a better chance of winning a cup if he goes elsewhere.:D:D:D:p:p:p

Now we will see just how bad Hossa really wants to be a Red Wing? If he decides to stay he will be earning less than Pavel and Hank. I am guessing it will be goodbye and good luck.

The last four seasons:

2005-06- 37-34-11- 85 Points

2006-07- 35-31-16- 86 Points

2007-08- 38-35-9- 85 Points

2008-09- 41-30-11- 93 Points

WOW...!! Goes to show you how much I follow it! I have heard NOTHING but ripping the organization apart the last week for making ANY KIND of moves what so ever without even a full time GM(they have a interm GM). And this isn't JUST FROM talk radio...but the local newspapers AND the local sport TV shows.

EDIT: ....just checked a few things....EVEN with the winning records, the Panthers have not made the playoffs since 1999-2000 season.....in a league where almost everyone and their mother makes the playoffs....that is pretty crappy! I also overheard....and someone can correct me if I am wrong, the Panthers are the ONLY team not to make the playoffs since the 1999-2000 season.

Those records are not actually winning records, though. The 37-34-11 record means the Panthers won 37 games (including regulation wins, OT wins, and shootout wins), lost 34 games in regulation, and lost another 11 games in either OT or shootout.

Their actual won/loss record was 37-45, which looks a lot worse than 37-34-11, but they separate the losses because they get one point for the 11 OT/shootout losses.

This is a perfect example of why the standings are something I would like to see changed going forward. They're very misleading to the casual fan. A .500 record isn't really a .500 record!

Almost everyone doesn't make the playoffs. 16 out of 30 make it, exactly like the NBA.

I don't know that for sure, but it sounds right. The Panthers have been going back and forth between bad and not too bad for what does seem like a decade now.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.:up

OK as usual there is way more to this than what is being said. The Panthers traded Bouwmeester to Calgary for Jordan Leopold and a third round pick. Both Bouwmeester and Leopold are unrestricted free agents on July 1, and can sign with any team...even the team that just traded them. They won't, both teams have decided that particular player doesn't fit in under their cap structure.

All this means is the teams who just received the player's rights have an exclusive window to sign their 'new' players, from the time of the trade (I think it was Saturday), until July 1 (tomorrow). Bouwmeester was leaving Florida anyway as a cap casualty, so it could be said the Panthers just picked up a free third round pick.

Glen Sather please call in sick tomorrow!

I swear the man only works three days a year...trading deadline day, draft day, and July 1, the day free agency starts. Otherwise he's virtually non-existant, except for the occasional Oiler uniform retirement ceremony. He makes sure to make it to those, so the Edmonton media can fawn all over him for a day or two.

Sather tends to spend July 1 handing out ridiculous contracts, like some deranged Santa Claus.

Ranger forums are abound with people wondering how Sather can dump some of his bad previous July 1 contracts (not so easy to do in the NHL)...so he apparently can hand out more bad July 1 contracts to the current free agent crop. If Sather goes fishing the last two July 1's instead of concentrating on hockey, the Rangers are in much better shape.

Take the day off, Glen!

Can he take the Panther INTERM GM with him??!!

That's right...the Panthers didn't have a real GM working the draft NOR the FA....
