Can he take the Panther INTERM GM with him??!!

That's right...the Panthers didn't have a real GM working the draft NOR the FA....

Believe it or not, Neil Smith was fired at the end of the season, before the draft that year, and Sather was not hired until August 1. They had no GM at all, no interim, no assistant...nothing. And they somehow managed to draft Henrik Lundqvist that year, the best player currently on their team.

Go figure.

Sandra, who should the Rangers sign?

People they can get cheap, and that probably means waiting until after July 1. Looks like they're losing Betts and Sjostrom, the keys to their number one PK unit last season, so they can start there.

They have to get out from under the contracts of Rozsival, Drury, Gomez and Redden first, though. Especially Redden, what a waste of $39 Million.

We'll gladly take back Mr. Drury, who probably wishes he hadn't left Buffalo.

If Drury comes back, I'll embrace him with open arms.

I like Drury too but he just makes too much money, thanks to the Edmonton Genius. I like Gomez too. But their salaries are hurting us badly.

Well Sather undid one of his previous July 1 mistakes, and was somehow able to convice Bob Gainey to not only take on Gomez's salary, but also to send Christopher Higgins and one of the Canadian's top prospects, Ryan McDonagh, to us in return. If I'm a Hab fan, I'm not happy.

Scott Gomez is a good player, but in today's NHL, with a $7.25 million cap hit for the next five years, you have to be a lot more than good. Gomez is not a number one center and not a big time scorer, something you need to be for that kind of money.

The question now becomes, what does Sather do with his new-found assets and cap room? There is talk of flipping McDonagh to Ottawa in a package for Dany Heatley, and of course free agency starts today, with Marian Gaborik and Marcel Hossa available, among others.

Please Glen, stay calm...

I am officially voting the Florida Panthers THE WORST run franchise in ANY SPORT. They traded away THE BEST PLAYER(Jay Bouwmeester) they have for a couple of bags of peanuts and a six pack....while still having NO GM.

...what is REALLY sad is that is barely got a blip on the sports radar down here....

...IF the Dolphins or Heat would have traded their best player, while not having a LEGIT GM....this city would be rioting as I type this.

...I am not a big hockey fan, but I have seen some of things this franchise has done and how every single type of media has gone nuts on them for some of the things they have done, but I believe Panthers deserve more than this....

Update...

Jay Bouwmeester did sign a contract with the Flames last night, hours before he could have become an unrestricted free agent. Five years, $6.6 million per year. So the Panthers picked up a draft pick in the deal, when they would have lost Bouwmeester for nothing. Not bad for not having a GM. ;)

Since cybok0 isn't here, I'll say it for him - Now we know who isn't going to win the Stanley Cup next season.

I would have loved for him to play for the Red Wings again, but we just didn't have the cap space. Bye, bye Marian.

While it would have been nice, the season does not go down the tubes now that Housa is a blackhawk, talk about long term though many years with one team!!!

Bad news, Sandra. The Rangers lost tough-guy Colton Orr.

They just signed Donald Brashear to replace him, $1.4 mil per for two years. Ugh. Not a bad pickup, but Brashear violated us in the playoffs, went over the line. He will be very difficult to root for...until he beats up an Islander.

Sandra

Gaborik is great when he plays. The question is how many games will he actually play in a blue shirt and how many will he spend nursing an injury?

Having to face him 6 times a year isn't a very enticing possibility.
