This is good news since my device is still on 6.1 and I will be looking at some of the new HTC 6.5 devices coming out soon. Now Windows Mobile users will start getting some cool apps in they will start taking apps July 27. But good to know that 6.0,6.1 devices will be able to use the new Marketplace.

Windows Marketplace for Mobile open to all 6.x users - Ars Technica

At this year's Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft announced that Windows Marketplace for Mobile will support Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 by the end of 2009 (Windows Mobile 6.5 support will be immediately available). This move is a significant one because it will allow developers to push applications to existing Windows Mobile customers, of which Microsoft estimates there are about 30 million. Furthermore, Windows Marketplace for Mobile will begin accepting mobile application submissions on July 27 (less than two weeks away) and will begin testing and certifying the third-party apps soon after.

The store will open simultaneously with the release of the first Windows phones (Microsoft's new term for mobile devices running Windows Mobile), which are set to arrive this fall.

Microsoft will also kick off a consumer-focused ad campaign for Windows phones. Nevertheless, Windows Marketplace for Mobile will include a separate Business Center category that will highlight the mobile business applications available for Windows phones.

In February, Microsoft officially announced Windows Mobile 6.5, Microsoft My Phone, and Windows Marketplace for Mobile. In March, Microsoft gave developers details on Windows Marketplace for Mobile.

One announcement said that there would be 29 supported countries at launch, though Microsoft didn't specify which ones. Now there's an official list: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong SAR, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UK, and the US.

Still running 6.1 myself... tried 6.5 but it wasn't just ready yet...about 98% there though!

I don't think I'll be buying any apps soon.... just too many free ones out there.

Sounds interesting, but like digiblur said, too many free ones out there.
