I just wanted bring this to your attention. When I called D* this morning they answered the phone AT & T Directv. This the same number that I have called in the past. Does this mean that ATT is buying out D*? If this has been discussed before, sorry about that.

That rumor has been around awhile so there may be something to it. However they wouldn't answer the phone that way until it was a done deal IMHO. It may be a marketing deal that certain 800#s are answered in a certain way. Was it the main 800-directv? or a number listed on our ATT bill or elsewhere? Still, quite interesting.

The number that I called was 1-800-Directv. The is the same number that I have always called. I called them a day or two ago, and they didn't answer the phone like that.

No, I do not subscribe to D* by way of the bundle. In fact I have suspended my accounted because on Wednesday I had UV installed. I am waiting to try out UV to see what I think of it before I cancel D*.

I noticed this as well when i called in yesterday to ask about sunday ticket. I called the directv number.

That's very interesting, seeing nothing has been released yet.

I haven't even heard anything internally about it (at&t) .

1800-531-5000 is the number to directv FYI

That's the number I called Friday and they answered the phone with the ATT in front of Direct TV and yes my services are bundled. I wondered why they answered that way when I called. I used the same number last week and they did not answer that way.

It's got to be some marketing thing. First, if AT&T *did* want to buy DirecTV they'd have to announce it, get it approved by the FCC, get it approved by shareholders, etc. Second, if they announced it today, they couldn't start combined operations immediately. It takes time to combine operations.

I'm willing to bet you live in an AT&T area or have an AT&T cell phone and it's displaying that on their screens and through the marketing agreement they answer AT&T DirecTV

Transferring ownership doesn't require a whole lot of tinkering on an operational level. The composition of the Board of Directors would probably change but little else would need to.

If AT&T bought DirecTV I can promise you they would integrate it into AT&T Corp. They aren't the kind of company that would run it as a separate subsidiary. Regardless, it would take months of regulatory approval and would be very public whether they were going to integrate it or not.

Not to turn this into an AT&T bashing thread, but the day AT&T owns D* is the day I go back to cable. I have enough headaches dealing with my internet and wireless service through them and their piss-poor customer service. I can't even imagine what they would do to the quality product that we know as D*...

AT&T has been in talks to get D* for about a year now, nothing new, it's been on thier mind ....
I'm very sure if they had made an agreement or one is close , we would already know about it.

probably not much to it as they used to answer for bundled accts as att/dishnetwork when they were under contract!

I think it all depends on what number you called, if you called a D* ? AT&T bundled number you would expect it, if you called a direct D* line, I would not expect it.

Yes, AT&T's contact with DISH Network ended at the end of January '09 and began with D* on Feb 1st

And on the flip side I've had nothing but problems with Verizon for wireless and Charter for cable, and with AT&T I never have any problems when I have to call in. Not to mention Charter has 12 HD channels in my town vs. DirecTV's hundreds.

I am not sure in words I could describe how much I hate AT&T.

Their phone reception is so beyond bad it should be illegal.

I had Verizon for 4 years before I got the iPhone and I never had a damn problem in 3 cities with the reception. 2 years with the iPhone and I would possibly let Verizon take off a testicle of mine if it meant having them for reception with the iPhone
