I am not all that impressed with D*'s offerings, but they are doing a great job with sales and deserve a pat on the back. I really wish E* would get their collective act together, but I see them losing 95k+ customers this quarter and breaking even on the financials. We shall see.

Well let's see here.
Direct adds a bunch of subs this quarter with AT&T.
We know that AT&T is sucking every bit of profit out of this deal!
So Direct really gains nothing but subscriber numbers.

Dish can't sell their product, they need a real company to market them like Direct uses.

As an installer that does both D* and E* the writing is on the wall. Neither has much work right now, that is worth doing. They both want you to go out and upgrade their subs to new tech. and pay next to nothing for the work. New installations are way down for both companys. They both have come up with crazy expectations of an install, and then they steal from the comapanys and the techs that do the work.

I am waiting to see how Dish spins their subscriber loss, while everyone else is showing gains. They can only ride out their, "It's the economy," for so long before shareholders realize he is full of it.

And fyi, I am a happy Dish subscriber for 5 years now :)

I think the 'its the economy' excuse isn't a good one, as E* and D* both provide much better deals than cable companies. You'd think both would be posting HUGE gains in subs since people are trying to stretch their dollar as far as they can right now. That is one of the reasons I went with D*. You can't even compare the package I have right now to what Comcast in my area offers at the same price.

All I can say is that im paying $35/mo for Directv at my house and have about an $80 package.

I was ready to break my contract with them months ago and pay the cancellation penalty, but for the deal they are giving me why would I want to cancel? I can pay $20 for every month remaining in my contract to get rid of them and have nothing, or pay an extra $15 and have an $80 package.

Does anyone honestly think that DISH Network would let me get away with over a 50% reduction on my monthly bill just to keep me as a customer? If I tried to pull this same stunt with DISH Network they would have let me cancel months ago and charged me for cancellation.

But Hey, Directv does do a good Job by taking care of their existing customer and thats why they are not posting subscriber losses. But how long can this go on before they realize they are giving away too much? I do not deserve getting the discount that im getting period!

It will be intresting to see what happens with DISH Network on Monday when the post their results

Claude, I'm sure Directv knows the economy is hurting most right now and have adjusted accordingly to help their subs. Very smart I say! They are great to their subs!

Directv is giving away too much? Only a person who sells Dish would say that! :D

IIRC it was Comcast, TWC and then DirecTV and Dish.
Nope.

It's

Comcast 24Million
DirecTV 18 Million
TWC 13 Million
Dish 13 Million

I need to look up the exact numbers but that's what it is.

When I left E* I was paying about $115 a month after all expenses. The retention people offered me the same package for $55 a month. I had no contract, so I had no need to take the offer. My guess is that they take care of the people who pay their bill on time (or on autopay, like me). Dish does exactly the same thing as D*.

They continue to call me up every quarter, I continue to tell them that they don't have NFL ST, and that their HD picture quality is nowhere close to D*. I loved E*'s hardware, I currently love D*'s picture quality and programming packages.

that's basically how i feel except that i think the hd pic is not that far off but it's a little better with D*. better enough to make it an issue for me. :)

I have no idea how big of a screen you have, but on my 110" screen it is very noticable.

I go over to a buddy who has Dish and just shake my head (same size screen). The amount of compression artifacts are just crazy. Dish has gotten better over the past year, but it still is not in the same league as D*.
