I'm in Alaska with a six foot dish on 129W. Why do I receive three channels of HBO-W for example? 303, 5545 and 9478? All of them work.

Yet, I get food network HD (for example) on 5587 and 9462, but 9462 says I am not subscribed to it.

Just trying to make sense of things and determine if Dish Network is setting up my channel restrictions based on being in Alaska?

The 5000 series channels are the spotbeam channels that are viewable to us in AK. The 9000 series are the national channels that are on conus beams. With the 6' dish we receive both. The movie channels are mapped down from the 9000 series channels,if I remember right. You can go thru and hide the duplicates, less confusion that way.

Dish will often open a service, say Hallmark, at one channel, but not at another channel. You aren't missing anything as all are the same feed and you are not being undeserved.

For example, Hallmark, nor any of the English language channels EXCEPT for Toon Disney, for some reason, are in RED at the Dish Latino 800 channel range and not viewable, yet Hallmark is open at both the 9000 HD and 185 HD location. It is the very same Hallmark feed at all channell locations, but Dish has decided NOT to allow non Dish Latino viewers to access the very same English language services at the 800 range--EXCEPT for Toon Disney which is open for all to view at the 800 Dish Latino location.

I would argue for Dish to open all the channels even at the 800 Dish Latino location because they show up on my search screens anyway, and I would have the option of selecting an 800 channel rather than dealing with them being locked out as useless options on the search screens.

Anyone in Alaska getting 129 Conus with 4 footer? None of my 9000s show transponders with 3 footer. I ask this because I'm updating and looking for bigger antenna and 6 footer is one option but expensive. I currently get TP 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12 with 3 footer and nothing else.

Signal levels even with a 6' dish are on the low side so I doubt if a 4' dish would receive any of the needed transponders.

An update...

So I picked 4ft antenna to try and you guys are right. A 4ft antenna pointed to 129 gives extra transponder 21 and stronger Alaska spotbeam signal (75) but not much Conus. Looks like I have project coming up next summer with 6ft dish installation. ;)
