Installing Satellite Dish on Tin Roof

My neighbor is putting up a tin roof on his house. The idea sounds good to me for my house. My question is,if I put tin roofing on my house,how hard would it be to put my Slimline Dish back on the roof(preferably in the same place it was before)?

Elephant trunk/under eave mount or clamp. Can't really lag through tin. Techs aren't supplied with self-tapping 2-3inch lags.

we're required to have a drill bit to pre drill our holes.. but not allowed to install on tin.


ive been to some lodges that have tin roofs and dishes installed on the roof that was done by contractors.

number one service calls ive gotten were grounding issues on houses and lodges that had dishes installed on tin.


my parents house have a fake looking shingles but is DECRA tin shingles... i cant mount on it if she wanted it there.

With respect to all the guys who "aren't allowed" there are two reasons for not doing it. One is the engineering analysis of the structure. The other is the recourse and charge back situation. You want an installation that will work without damage to anything.. or you want someone to come out and do it correctly.

Should you decide to go forward...abandon the Directv inhouse Home Service Providers. They aren't allowed! You need someone to mount the correct steel pole through the roof with all the weight taken up by roof trusses. Attach a roofing flange with a rubber socket to waterproof the pipe and then proceed, The pipe should be grounded to the main house bond ( at the electric meter).

OR do you have a plumbing stack on your roof? Is it steel and firmly attached? There is a pipe attachment that will give you a 2" plumb mast.

Then there are the side mounts and extension masts mentioned by others.

So it it possible but outside the FREE installation.

Any chance for a ground mount?

I don't think that ground mount would be a problem. There are no set plans to put up tin roofing,I was just curious. My neighbor also has a satellite dish that looks like it is set up on the side of the house,just under the roof. The installers took down the dish to install the tin,& they put it back up for him. Anyway,with a $4,000.00-5,000.00 price tag for putting tin on my roof,I'll just stick with the status quo. I was just curious how D*(& E*) installers dealt with tin roofing. Another dumb question but would the obvious glare from the sun on the roof also affect the signal to the dish(if it was on or off the side of the roof)?

You could do a commdeck roof mount. Have your roofer put it in during the roofing install. They can easily work it into the tin roof. You may want to do some prewiring prior to the dish install, but you wouldn't have to. With the Commdeck you can run the wires underneath from the attic for a nice clean install. You could do the same with the ground.

If the tin roof you are considering is a standing seam metal roof, this company manufactures seam clamps that can be used to mount satellite dishes...see here:

The sun would melt snow etc. No issue for the dish.

Good one wildbill29...forgot about Commdeck stuff. If the dish could end up near where the ground has to run that would do it!
