Now I have a question does this unit go outside or is it inside?

Reason asking is I have used ethernet cable outside before, and it seems squirls (sp?) and birds love to eat it.

MnSatelliteGuy if you would like more information on the technology check out DBSTalk.com they have a good write up about it. Honestly we did not find out about it until this morning from DirecTV.

I would say this would be an inside unit. From what I can tell the PI is just a regular SWM-style PI, and the filter can be between the LNB/Switch and the SWM-PI. This is something you'd want right behind the receiver, not outside by the splitter or switch. Most of the stuff that's going to connect to it would be inside anyway (receivers, routers, etc)

Thanks for some reason I was imagining the Dish going to the SWM, then the DECA going into the SWM with a ethernet coming out and going into the house and being split out to the receivers accordingly.

The animals never touch my RG6 cable, but love to feast on the CAT5 or 6 that I have used outside.

Jospeh - Any receiver you want to be part of the network requires a DECA box.


Goaliebob - the product is already in testing, I wouldn't expect any more testing to be available.

Darnit where was I! Good deal, I cant wait to see this released, my only other option is to do wirless N bridges at 90 bucks a pop for the linksys one.

I wonder why no one has ever made outdoor CAT 6 that has an extra super thick coating of plasic on the outside shield, or even a gel like the outdoor RG6

I would like to have this but I don't have a SWM setup and being that I have 3 non SWM compatible DVRs (R15s) I would have to spend extra $ to replace them plus whatever it would cost to get SWM installed. And being that 2 of the 3 R15s are used by my daughters and they have already told me that they don't want to lose all of their recorded material if I was to get new receivers, I may be out of luck on this one.

The information was provided by DirecTV, as Scott said.

It is not on their web site, the product is in development and not available yet. DECA may not be available for weeks to several months yet, hard to say. Sometimes products like this that they develop simply never get released as well (HDPC20 - if I got the acronym right).

What does it mean to say "You heard it here first" if it's copied from somewhere else? I'm getting very disappointed in how we're always falling behind over here and then we resort to petty copy and paste reporting

I posted it at Satelliteguys at 11:08am. Shortly after at 11:23am Stuart posted their review at dbstalk. Clearly their document and the effort involved indicates it was prepared well in advance of Tuesday morning.

So as I said, you heard it here first, at least if you looked between 11:08 and 11:23, after that, well, it's anybody's guess

Actually they do make such cable. I've used it before. It's got a thick jacket and looks a lot like coax. Inside the twisted pair wire is coated with a gel also. The stuff is a royal pain to work with. You are an absolute mess after terminating it.

The DECA stuff looks really great. Looks like D* has just about all the pieces of the puzzle for a successful MRV solution.

Ah, they bought Sling, they probably will try to sell you a 922 receiver with Sling built in, and sell you a Sling Catcher for the multi room. Anything that costs $500 has Charlie's heart.

Yeah, anything that is a kludge is great to Dish and Echostar. I would probably go with Dish if they had MRV even on the horizon. Sling = degraded quality, even with a sling catcher on the same network.
